New 540 Class Folding Quad Frame

Sure. I don't know how the flight controller unit known as "Pixhawk 2" has any impact on video transmission, though. The original Pixhawk does indeed have multiple mavlink telemetry ports for OSD, rx telemetry, etc. It wouldn't make sense design-wise to have the flight controller manage video...

    Certainly! Godspeed!

    Tarot 680PRO build log

Yep, looks the same as the TriCrimp. Powerwerx is also a nice place for the connectors in bulk. Cheers!

    Parallel charging high-capacity/high-voltage LiPo

I am looking to keep it simple with a Junsi S1200 power supply and Power Lab 6 charger. I'm well aware I could save a lot of cash by building my own power supply but the tinkering I'm most interested in starts with a reliable flying rig I can travel with. I can always use another adjustable...

    Tarot 680PRO build log

Hi Bill - Anderson PowerPole fan here as well! I use the TriCrimp tool from PowerWerx and it is great. Nicely done on the power supplies. I'm looking at something self contained only to simplify travel.

    Parallel charging high-capacity/high-voltage LiPo

It sounds like the preferred chargers are iCharger (example iCharger 306B) and FMA PowerLab (example PowerLab 6). Naturally, everyone has their preference for what is best and how everything else is not best, but I'm wondering what is working for you. Power supplies are obviously a major factor...

    MR Wannabe - new build

I don't know if I agree with JoeBob re: 'clones' but I'm not terribly experienced myself (although like you @GertJL I am an EE). PX4/Pixhawk are open source projects and thus the hardware is open to be produced by anyone. I have heard of both bogus clones and poorly soldered "official" 3DR...

    telemetry on Fpv screen?

I will be using a MAVLink-OSD to do that, you can see a simple diagram on that page as well. I'll post back with results once I've had a chance to try it!

New 540 Class Folding Quad Frame

Really nicely done, Paul! This could be an ideal platform for our conservancy project. Ultimate portability without sacrificing equipment flexibility, strength, or stability. Do you mean the as-of-yet unreleased FC from the Solo? Do you have details that have not been publicly announced? How...

Advice for BEC / wiring from experienced AP/AV folk

Hi guys, I need BEC/wiring advice. We have a pretty common scenario config-wise, so I am hoping to benefit from your experience in order to avoid unnecessary components. Power is 6S, and I want to try to power everything from the main source. 5V * Flight Controller servo rail (backup power)...

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

hey @Motopreserve I found 1/8" (and 1/16") angle aluminum at the local hardware. The one that seemed the right size is 3/4" on a side, or about 19mm. Is that the size you have found success with? Then I'd just poke through grommets to match whatever I end up with. I wasn't able to find extra...

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

totally. well, I'll be a guinea pig. I'll use 200mm-or-so length on the rails and go from there.

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

Yep, these guys, at 100mm square. So, right, why not just screw the aluminum with the grommets for 12mm CF to these and space it however we want? Then you can still end up with 155mm between the rails, since the clamps aren't screwed directly to the frame. BTW the InfinityMR can mount anywhere...

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

what do you think about the length? I only really need 200mm max for the gimbal, and the batts are going on top. Seems like that should give plenty of adjustment for CoG, no? The Tarot rails are 400mm, I am guessing this is for folks who want a gimbal out in front and batts out back.

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

cool! Yeah, for the money I will have him cut, might as well. We could do it outside but we've already got plenty to do!

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

I found some CF tube here. Would you say just get some grommets from the hardware store, or do you have a source you like?

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

Yup I've seen the Vulcan. I think the rails for T810 and T960 are indeed 155mm, so that seemed like an inexpensive option to have rails with some flexibility in mounting to the frame. I suppose if I get the InfinityMR plate and clamps I could just switch out the tube clamps if necessary.

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

Not sure about quick release, that sounds really cool too, but what do you think of this along with the InfinityMR tube clamp mount? If QuadFrame made a rails kit I'd already have grabbed it :) @Motopreserve @Mactadpole As for quick releases you guys mentioned Vulcan and others, as well as DIY...

    Insight into possible FAA regulations?

well, what do you guys think of this? Have there been any updates since the 'leak'? We are a tiny engineering firm self-funding our sUAS R&D which we hope will feed into 'commercial' applications, via demonstrations to SME's at the very least. Is there already a subculture of folks who can't...

    R&D Hex for Survey/Imaging/Conservation

seems like we're ready for action, no? I'm making a new thread for the build but would like to hang onto this one for reference, thanks for all your contributions, guys.
