I reckon you're best to set up from scratch after a firmware upgrade, that way you know what's what. Of course take a note of settings before upgrade.

As you're getting something out it may just be the setting on the camera, check that TV connection is set properly and the HDMI output is set the same. 1080p is probably your best bet but maybe 1080i. Also make sure you're on latest camera firmware.

I really think the gh4 is still the best mirrorless video camera for flying. Battery life is great, it's lighter than the A7 range, suffers less rolling shutter than the sonys, no meddlesome internal stabilisation and it's a lot cheaper! Sony wins on the ground maybe but not in the air.

I think it's a great idea, I've heard mention of it before but can't remember where. No doubt there are a lot of hurdles to get over to make a useful system but certainly worth some research. 90% of the work I do a chute wouldn't make any difference to speed of impact.

As Bartman says, the U7s are pretty picky so do your research before going for that combo.

A2 is very good now, all the early problems seem to have been ironed out. I prefer it to Wookong.

How have people been getting on with this over water? I tested today and rock solid at 500m with no break up but had real problems over a canal where I had total loss of signal at 120m.

I've tried both and prefer retracts although don't really like the Skyjib ones as they are a bit flimsy if you have a heavy camera. Currently running with the MR legs which works ok once you get used to it. Toad set-up is super easy but I find I get better footage without the toad.

The AR8000 DX8 is a good combo. I have them on 3 machines and have never had a problem out to 500m.

These gimbals certainly have a personality, each one seems different. Maybe it's the hdmi cable that's the problem, I could only output 24fps for a while until I changed the cable.
