FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

Looks like they are under the motors. DJI's S900 and S1000 have the same setup. Note how it violates the supposed rule about shortening ESC power wires... --- an overblown assumed problem in the first place.

    The Future of Propeller Technology

I'm lost. Hopefully KDE can educate us. For my interests, convenience of a folding prop combined with excellent thrust/watt and low vibes are more than enough to sell me on a prop system.

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

Is there any gimbal out there apart from FreeFly's MōVI lineup and DJI's flight controller / Zen combination that uses GPS at all (at least in the range we are discussing here)? I'm starting to wonder how much this GPS correction matters, but also thinking to myself that the only really great...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

The specs read as if you have 4 channels of PWM control and up to 18 channels (i.e., all of them) via S.Bus. The software will be interesting. Somehow the camera must allow mapping channels to functions (e.g., channel 1 -> shutter speed). That will be neat to see. I really hope the micro...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

Until I get my hands on one I can't say for sure, but the GH4 sensor is larger. Generally that should mean less noise at any ISO level. Obviously the GH4 shoots in 4K (on the ground that's great if you have an Atomos Shogun, for example, but it's less useful in the air with only 100Mbit/sec data...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

Really looking forward to his review. Assuming it's easy to balance and has decent software/interface, the big question for flying it will be how it handles horizon drift.

    Researching a Gimbal for a BMPCC (t810).

I think this will change, and primarily because we are seeing better cameras in smaller sizes. The GH4 has only been out a year. Just this week the BlackMagic micro was announced, and even the very high end makers are realizing that there is a demand for quality in smaller sizes for aerial work...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

It's a game changer... Assuming I can find a decent gimbal that will fly it. Looking at the Gremsy H6 specs today and at least on paper it seems preferable to the Defy G2X -- certainly lighter.

    Researching a Gimbal for a BMPCC (t810).

The best option out there for a BMPCC is probably DJI's Zenmuse. I have one. It delivers great results. Right now I'm in the market for an adjustable gimbal for cameras in the range of the BMPCC, GH4, the new BlackMagic micro, etc. It's just about impossible to find anything. The M5 is overkill...

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

Very interested in this option as well. Looks like this H6 is quite a bit lighter than the M5 or other options I've been considering (e.g., Defy G2X). They have a video up showing it under a DJI S900, which is pretty interesting (and extremely affordable relatively speaking).

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

I've been looking around at gimbal options that offer flexibility (various cameras/lenses up to a GH4), great service, reliable results, easy no-tool balancing, etc. It's a unicorn hunt. It seems like it's either a DJI Zen with zero flexibility or the M5. I can't believe I'm seriously...

Here is what Freefly has to say about GPS:

DJI Inspire 1, What's the Verdict?

One thing I miss on the Inspire is home lock IOC flight mode. I really like that on the Wookong controller. In this mode forward is always away from the home point, back is always toward it, and left/right are counter-clockwise and clockwise flight on a circle where the home point is in the...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

I'm getting this little micro in the air one way or another. Pre-ordered from B&H, and the forecast is delivery in mid July. Based on the BMPCC I have high expectations. We will see how it turns out.

DJI Inspire 1, What's the Verdict?

Just snuck out of the office (home office, that is) to try the new firmware. HUGE improvement. GPS in a wooded area was rock solid. This may make me a believer in GPS mode. Previously I had done most of my Inspire flying in ATTI just because the GPS lock was so unreliable. Based on this single...

Ronin m. What do you guys think for aerial?

The other issue is single tube construction. The wonderful thing about the M5 and many newer designs is double tube / channel construction so you can't possibly get an axis out of alignment and you are not fiddling with two variables at the same time (moving along a tube and rotating around it...

DJI Inspire 1, What's the Verdict?

This update also updated all of my batteries as well. You just power up with the firmware update file loaded and the craft will update the battery if necessary.

Ronin m. What do you guys think for aerial?

Very helpful -- thanks. I don't know what Defy is using for a controller, but if it is stock Alexmos then my interest just fell substantially. Maybe it's somehow modified for easier tuning, etc. Their videos seem to indicate so, but there is a difference between hiding complexity and improving...

DJI Inspire 1, What's the Verdict?

2:35 -- Started radio update. Damn this incessant "D-D-D-D" beep is annoying. Be sure to follow the firmware update instructions carefully. This is simple enough. 2:36 -- That was fast. Radio is showing update complete.
