2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

Depends on how you feel about fisheye. The GoPro file is better than the Inspire (and apparently the P3 because it's using the same camera hardware). But, it's not hugely better, and if you de-fisheye in post you give up a decent amount of data. That goes away to some extent if you shoot medium...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

I'm not. They are offering 4K in the same form factor as a "studio" camera (no internal recording at all, so you need something like an Atomos Shogun to capture the 4K). There really is nothing out there in a compact form that can fly and capture really great 4K at a bitrate that makes it worth...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

Buying one of these is a no-brainer. The problem will be, as usual, the gimbal. One negative with the BMPCC and this new micro is the crop factor of about 2.9. So a 14mm lens is nearly 42mm in practice. That makes any given angular movement in the camera much more evident, so the gimbal needs to...

    E1200 Tuned Propulsion Kit

Nice! How does it feel in the air -- any big differences compared to the S900 original setup?

16 AWG wire OK for parallel XT60, 4S battery system?

A standard diode inline for each battery in the harness would work (need to have to correct specs, of course, for the expected current load and voltage -- could be a real problem at, say, 30V 150A). The point Bart is making (a good one!) is that we don't want current flowing into a battery in...

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

I agree with you. For the lift capability (and surely for pros who get paid to fly and need to carry heavier systems) it is a reasonable price.

    Phantom 3 PRO camera question

I think it is the same integrated camera/lens as in the Inspire. This is all about the optics and not the sensor. Think of it as just and standard DSLR, like a GH4. You can attach a lens that is fisheye or you can attach on that is not. The GoPro just has a fisheye lens while the P3/Inspire use...

Ouch. Big price for that ALTA. Sure looks nice, though.

SOLO, New RTF Quad from 3D Robotics

The big numbers for the likes of DJI and 3DR are in selling consumer friendly camera platforms. Just look at the success of the Phantom and Inspire for DJI. A huge part of "friendly" is simple battery charging and that means integrated circuitry -- i.e, "smart battery". I think the days of...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

Also, almost all consumer video options -- even very good ones including the GH4 and the original Blackmagic BMPCC -- have rolling shutter. To get a global shutter is very interesting here. In my view the BMPCC, for its size, is the best 1080p camera out there. If Blackmagic is giving us...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

The global shutter means no rolling shutter. The entire frame is scanned at once (i.e., not top to bottom with some lag from the top to the bottom, where the scan itself captures motion over a very brief time period). You don't get that stair-stepped jagged appearance with motion, but rather...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

OK, first thing from NAB that I really want. 13 stops, RAW, PWM/S.Bus camera control... looks like an MFT mount. Could be terrific.

    losing altitute with big x8

Losing altitude when moving forward or yawing usually indicates the vertical gain setting is too low. It could also indicate a power problem (battery can't deliver needed amps, wires not able to carry current, etc.).

[URGENT] Need Help with DJI Phantom 2

If it only drops in manual mode that can be normal. With the self-centering throttle, manual mode is a little more difficult to fly. You likely will need to be constantly holding the throttle above center to maintain position (this just means the copter hovers a some throttle level above 50%)...

[URGENT] Need Help with DJI Phantom 2

First guesses would be bad battery, too much weight, or manual flight mode. Does it happen immediately after take off or later in flight? Are you flying the stock phantom 2 or do you have stuff attached to it? Can you confirm you are in ATTI or GPS flight mode?

Aeronavics / Droidworx SkyJib X4 Crashes Testing Failsafe

I don't fly the DX8, but if it has receiver failsafe like the Futaba receivers do it would be possible to accidentally setup that failsafe to drop throttle to zero upon link failure (may even be the default -- no idea). That would produce the crash you describe. You can test this on the ground...

DJI put me in business, and is taking me out...

I didn't say it was acceptable. I said we are better living in a world where people are free to chose the risks they take. What I think or what you think is only relevant to our own lives and choices. Where I draw the line is in imposing risk on people without their consent or freedom to choose...

Aeronavics / Droidworx SkyJib X4 Crashes Testing Failsafe

Odd. My only guess is your receiver failsafe engaged (as opposed to the WKM failsafe), sent full throttle down to the WKM, and the WKM killed the motors. What radio / receiver are you using?

    What tach do you use?

If you don't care about price, this is a nice option. I've used it to measure RC motor RPM and it works great. The laser option is very nice and allows you to get clear of the motor / prop. http://amzn.com/B00023RXCI
