Product Review ** DJI 1552 Folding Propeller

Here is power consumption for given levels of thrust. I used a DJI 4114 400v Motor and Tiger Motor 40A ESC. Tests were at 22.2v. Columns are: Thrust (kg) Watts: Original S800 Folder Watts: 1552 Folding Prop Watts: Tiger Motor 15" prop Watts: Tiger Motor Folder 0.50 46.0 47.1...

Current feeling on U7 and equivalent KDE?

The issue I found (linked below) is reporting related to power (i.e., watts, and not just volts or amps). I've tested motor/ESC combinations with a power supply set to constant voltage and the results are not materially different than when testing with a battery as long as everything is...

Current feeling on U7 and equivalent KDE?

It's a good point. My thinking (with no objective measurement) is that the flight controller is really controlling the response to stick input or deviation from desired position/orientation. Ideally, the ESC/Motor combination would respond the the flight controller quickly and consistently, and...

Current feeling on U7 and equivalent KDE?

Totally agree about the responsiveness of the KDE ESC/Motor combination as compared to Tiger --- that was the driver for me to pick KDE for my X8 build.

Current feeling on U7 and equivalent KDE?

I think the physics just dominate the results. Well built motors of similar size perform similarly, and even differently sized motors reflect only very marginal differences in power consumption for a given level of RPM. Here is a comparison I did a while back where my primary conclusion was that...

InfinityMR Universal high performance gimbal for GH4/A7S size cameras

Here is a couple of minutes from my first test flight today. I have a little bit of wobble to tune out. Wind was about 5 mph with gusts to 10-15 (based on my weather station). Nothing fascinating here, just a test. The camera is the Sony a7R ii with a Zeiss Loxia 35mm lens. No post...

    Sony a7R II

I am hoping to get it in the air in the next few days.

    Sony a7R II

All I have as of now is a manual focus prime for the Sony, so I can't tell. The high end drive for the Sony is 5 fps, so even if it tracks wonderfully with Sony E lenses it is still fairly slow. Single shot AF through my Canon lenses is actually pretty good on the Sony. Tracking just isn't...

    Sony a7R II

The gimbal arrived yesterday and it's a perfect fit to the a7rii. Hope to get some aerial footage/stills done this week. As a general update on this camera, I'll say that it meets or exceeds anything my Canon 1DX can produce at the image level. That is to say, assuming I can capture the shot...

    Sony a7R II

Agreed on Canon glass. But now the market is coming to them. The Metabones converters are great, and so far I think the AF on this new Sony combined with the Metabones EF-E IV converter and Canon lenses is very good. For aerial work I am planning on using the Zeiss 35mm f/2, which is all manual...

    Sony a7R II

Mine arrived today. This is one amazing little machine. I don't have any Sony E-mount glass at this point (a Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 is inbound), so all of my playing around today has been with Canon lenses and a Metabones EF-E converter (Mark IV with the latest firmware). This may not be the...

Your Face Palm post of the day, September 4, 2015

Nice to see a reputable name enter the LiPo market. Personally, I would like to see more in the 10,000+ mAh 6s range, but what they have is a good start.

What is California doing?...this Bill goes way too far!! Pretty much bans RC aircraft.

Before I read it I expected some form of Cali craziness. But this is actually sensible.

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

On any controller, ATTI is all about height hold, yaw response, and the nature of reaction to stick inputs. If the barometer(s) do the job, then a decent setup can provide the stick sensitivity/ramping desired. Any FC I've ever tried can be managed easily enough with respect to stick inputs in...

InfinityMR Universal high performance gimbal for GH4/A7S size cameras

Maybe Phobotic at this point is best for two-man operation. The camera op can always manage roll as needed, so it's all about stabilization. For single operator, Alexmos/encoders may be the better choice -- at least that was my thinking when I ordered last week.
