    Gremsy gstabi H3

Not a good day. Tried a couple of test flights with the GH4. My preferred HDMI cable didn't quite fit between the GH4 and the gimbal frame, and with a little extra pressure I managed to screw up my GH4's micro HDMI port. I really hate micro HDMI ports. Worst video connecter ever designed...

    Gremsy gstabi H3

Nice to see another H3 out there. Good looking rig. The S1000 is about 4.5kg unloaded. Add a 5 pound battery and 4.5 pound gimbal/camera, and my setup hits right at 9kg all up. With the 21000 mAh battery, flight time is a little over 15 minutes with some to spare.

Hopefully I can get to it soon. Wind is about 15 mph straight line here today with gusts up to 25 according to my weather station.

I have that lens and will give it a try and post back here.

I had some luck with increasing the hold strength. Wind is heavy here today, but when things calm down I will shoot some more test video. What lens are you flying with your GH4? I have a GH4 and will try it out with the same lens you are using if I have one.

    Gremsy gstabi H3

I replaced the top and bottom plates (heavier top plate, bottom plate now covers all arms). No gear modifications. As you can see in the pics, I am flying with the battery on top (the standard S1000 setup has the battery on the same stabilized rails as the gimbal). So, the gimbal is the only...

    Gremsy gstabi H3

It may be hard to see in the 1080p vimeo footage, but there are occasional little bounces in the stabilization that shouldn't be there. They are minor and clean up well with stabilization, and I think I have the tuning improved (increased hold strength). Excellent idea re:lens hood. I will try...

    Gremsy gstabi H3

I'll abstain from commenting on the InfinityMR. Others can do a much better job. Obviously, for my preferences, the H3 was the way to go. When I get to my place out east I'll see if some of us (especially Bart) can meet up to fly sometime. I'm at my farm in the midwest now.

    Gremsy gstabi H3

My take so far is that this (the H3) is a viable integrated gimbal solution that works. I would put the M5 in that category, of course (though I have not personally put it in the air yet). Also in that category is the DJI Zenmuse series, but this option is limited by single camera/lens choice in...

    Gremsy gstabi H3

I do have an M5, and have long had plans to get it in the air on an X8 build. But I haven't completed that, so I can't compare it to the H3 in the air. I am so behind on projects... It was a lot easier to get the H3 and mount it on the S1000, and I have always wanted to make my S1000 more...

    Gremsy gstabi H3

Here is the same video posted above but with no stabilization applied. I flew some more today, and I found that using stronger "hold strength" values (config->expert) eliminates much of the small bouncing in the footage you can see below.

Here are a few shots of the setup. You can see I'm powering the H3 using a BEC.

Here is a quick clip (about 2 minutes, no cuts) I shot this evening -- first H3 flight, and I was losing light fast. I have the H3 mounted on a DJI S1000, and the camera I tested with this evening is the Sony A7Rii with a Zeiss Loxia 35mm lens. I had a few wiggles in the footage that were easily...

They know something we don't, and for what they want to do (automated flying, no LOS, etc.) the requirements/regs will be about as applicable to our needs as those that apply to commercial jets.

    Pre-release footage from GoPro Quadcopter

The market I see won't care about minor defects in stabilization. Like Bart says, if GoPro can produce a highly portable and easy to use system that basically follows the subject on its own from a short distance and captures cell-phone quality video then it's a winner.

I don't know much about the AMA, but my impression is they are not out there advocating for multis and commercial LOS aerial photo work. If they are, I guess I am unaware of the effort.

Oh great... is this true? (registration)

Right now it seems like there is no constituency with power or money to get government to acknowledge or accommodate LOS flying under a low ceiling over property with owner permission --- i.e., the vast majority of situations requiring aerial photo work. The emphasis is all on big industry and...

    Pre-release footage from GoPro Quadcopter

I think the consumer space is going to really explode assuming government doesn't completely screw it up. Look at the camera market. What we have learned in recent years is that just about everyone prefers convenience over image quality. Photo nerds (myself included) get all excited about the...
