    Motor terminology - Kv

Or just order a few, test them, etc. "Trust but verify".

    Motor terminology - Kv

I have no idea -- my understanding of this is that, all else equal, a lower Kv motor spins more slowly. But make all else not equal and I just ignore Kv and look at the watts/thrust/RPM specs for a given prop size and voltage. This is why in another thread I was so focussed on the reliability of...

DJI Ronin M Price announced. $1399!!!

I agree with Bart on timing. I assume anything I own that flies is just about worthless in a couple of years the way tech is moving.

    Motor terminology - Kv

I'll admit I don't really get "Kv" and its practical use. In reality the RPM/volt will depend on the prop load. Do manufacturers just specify Kv for the smallest rated prop? In any case, it seems much more useful just to look at the motor specs for a given prop to see what RPM is produced at...

    Ronin m $1399. Wow.

Yup. I wish every gimbal out there would push some form of HD video, 3-wire servo cable (for s-bus), and, in a perfect world, 12v power with ability to carry a few amps, through the gimbal up to the copter. On the gimbal put nice clean ports on the camera cage for these. That would be perfect.

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

The A7s seems awesome, but I'm trying my best not to expand my photo gear to another lens mount. MFT and Canon EF hopefully will be all I need, especially if Blackmagic keeps making cameras that accept EF or MFT lenses. Apart from needing an external recorder for 4K, one thing about the A7s that...

2015 NAB News: Blackmagic Micro Cinema Cam, Tiny, Drone-Specific Super16 RAW Camera

"4K" may come to households in the next few years (maybe) but right now we are only getting very highly compressed 1080i or 720p (or very heavily compressed 1080p from youtube or vimeo). It would be much better to get 1080p with decent bit rates, but if the masses demand "4K" they will probably...

DroneThermal Micro UAV Thermal Camera Breakout Board

80 x 60 thermal is going to be pretty unusable for much of anything from the air. Might be fun to play with, however.

How to Increase Flight Time in an RC Helicopter???

The S900 comes with retracts. Everything but the flight controller goes for about $1,400 (frame with battery tray and rails, retracts, motors, props, ESCs). It's good price for what you get. I think there is a clone out there for under $1,000. Check out rctimer -- they tend to copy DJI stuff a...

    Ronin m $1399. Wow.

I got an M5 last year fully intending to fly it. Work got busy, winter hit, and only now am I getting back to a build to fly the M5. In the mean time, I've used it handheld and having had that option I really don't want to give it up. If I'm shooting video of anything and not on a tripod I want...

KDE vs T-Motor -- Picking a Motor Based on Spec Sheets

Yes, 1552s. But, for the purposes of this exercise all that matters is that both motors are spinning the same 15" prop. Back to my original post, this is really just a question of RPMs per watt given some load (in this case 15" folding props). For any given RPM, and regardless of the motor, the...

KDE vs T-Motor -- Picking a Motor Based on Spec Sheets

For any given level of watts the KDE motor produced about 25% less thrust than their spec sheet claims for the prop size I tested.

That's about what I am seeing. KDE's thrust values are inflated by about 25%.

The DJI canbus interface is a HUGE deal. We need all the details possible on that.

KDE vs T-Motor -- Picking a Motor Based on Spec Sheets

Every motor I have ever tested pulls more amps than the spec at full throttle if the voltage provided is above nominal 3.7v per cell. Both of these motors exceeded rated amps and thrust at full throttle and on a fully charged battery (4.2v per cell). Check out the data points in my test graph...
