    Time to try a Y6

its more than just the angle, its also to do with behaviour in wind to get the same lift with 6 motors arranged as a hex, you have alot of prop area that the wind can hit and cause instability,, the Y6, by stacking the props, sacrifices some efficiency in favour of having only half the prop...

Tau Labs Australia and New Zealand Copter Control boards

I have word that they are not far away  I am taking "expressions of interest" for a copter control board, at this stage, and in a week or so, will take pre-orders, once the new boards are tested in Australia. So get hold of me, PM on this site, via my shop site...

More or less. Advantages of both.

bottom prop is in dirty air - efficiency suffers :)

More or less. Advantages of both.

I like Quads, but they are a compromise. When Yawing it essentially is balancing on two opposite motors. You can whip up some motor combos that will give you about 4kg lift, out of a 160 gram motor, so would have a 16kg capable quad more rotors= less speed diferential between them to achieve...

More or less. Advantages of both.

theres a limit on low motor count systems, as you need a fast response rate (acceleration/deceleration) in order to properly controll, and the more mass, the harder it is I havent heard of many systems over 14" props

    Counterclockwise

heavy crash - make sure all the motors are dead verticle, a 1-2 deg off-set will start to yaw it around

I kept my props close as well , about 10mm, same reason as you gaui props are fine, the pitch isnt critical, as you will adjust motor speed during setup to suit would go with 10 by 3.8 for the mains on those higher kv motors, but 10 by 4.5 or 10 by 4.7 will be fine

Tau Labs OP CC board and JR/Spektrum radios

I havent done it, so take the below with a grain of salt First the satellite needs to be bound to the TX, do this the normal way ie plugged into a reciever, and bind the reciever/satilite the software to use is this one fw_coptercontrol-dsm2sat-20110608-1ac92643.opfw

@ben - the RCT ESC's and the Turnigy plush are both Hobbywing (thats why they use the same programing card) i am using RCT 20 amp and 30 amp at the moment - have had 1 out of 36 fail @rocky - angle grinder with thin partoff wheel sorts that issue out, i whack em in half

http://multirotor.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/multirotorcalc1.xls 1300 grams frame, 200 grams go pro, and 400 grams battery gets you 7-8 mins in the air safely , 1.9 kg all up. its a bit high, as you will only have 2.7kg or so total thrust on your setup my vtail quad , with a smaller frame was...

    Programming ESC's for I2C/PWM converter

Crash has it, you have no return path (ov - black wire). you dont need to remove the black wire from the plug, and yes, you need to power up the ESC (if you left teh red wire in as well, you couldback feed the ESC thru the programing card and power it up that way) Handy tip from Mat Step...

    Programming ESC's for I2C/PWM converter

get a programming card when using turnigy/hobbywing/rct esc's and you dont need to solder the motors to them while programming my daughter sets up mine, using the attached photo (helpfull when setting up 32 at a time :) )

    Programming ESC's for I2C/PWM converter

they are set to nixx so as to essentially disable the low voltage cutoff if ya batteries start to die, you can limp the 'copter down, and maybe only wreck a batt if the ESC hits LVC (low voltage cuttoff) then you are toast, multi drops like a lead brick and damages whatever it can !

Thats not Fair ! Warthox can join in, we just require three forward flips, 3 rolls and a high speed lap before each touch and go :) Hmm, this about sums up my weekend - no trying the comp
