I'm doing the same build but I'm waiting for parts to arrive today so I'm behind you. That's a very sexy PDB. Can you share a link to where you got it?

That Hercules boards look like an absolute work of art!

nice one, really impressed and looking forward to the final result.

Always thought I would build up to doing the same, maybe a Lite like Droider, but ended up so far with a Vulcan X8 which I'm really pleased with. What gimbal are you going to use? I'm just going for the CS3.

Hi Dazzab

It's a Herkules III ESC

It's not fully released yet - will be very soon... I contacted Andreas to get a Beta test sample so that I could incorporate into my new build.

Its a beautiful thing

Thanks:) I'm going to use my GH2 Zen to begin with - waiting to see what comes out in the next 6 months Direct Drive for something bigger...

steve if you are concerned about shorts, which is good to be !!!! Also cover the solder pads of the elkos ! Probably more crucial than the Motors phases themselves since hercules can handle shorts on those !

and i would secure the micromatch plugs on the herkules ! The seem tight but if the ribbon cable are under a little bit of strain vibrations can lead to the micromatch plugs to get loose. Hot glueing them to the board is an option. Just go sure that the hot glue you are using has zero conductivity. I have never heard of some that has. But reading in a different thread someone claimed some of them do, so i would double check !

Thanks Boris.

I have just ordered a Telemetry board from Andreas... I also have a Jeti DS-16 on order - I see that you have a Jeti DC-16...

Do you know what sensors I will need to work with the Herkules Telemetry board - I am mainly interested in amperage used and temp...

****Revised post after looking closer at the pics....****

Hi Steve, I notice that you are using the 2.4gig data downlink, is this a good idea when using a 2.4 RC TX/Rx ?

I've been using a 2.4GHz data link with 2.4 Futaba radio for about a year now without any issues

Ok, Cool. I had a bit of trouble with an AeroQuad with the 1 watt 2.4 Xbee modem until I swapped to the 900meg unit.I thought that was why dii had the 900meg data Link available... And no, I have no idea why the 900 version is more expensive than the 2.4

Steve if you are getting the telemetry board for the Herkules you wont really need any Jeti sensors anymore concerning V A etc.

  • Protocolls Graupner HOTT and JETI Duplex
  • Servo connector breakout
  • Total Current
  • Battery Voltage
  • Temp of Each ESC
  • Current of Each ESC (Average, Peak)
  • Integrated Charge (mAh)
  • Status of each Motor (STOP, RUN, STALL, TIMEOUT, BLOCK)
It will give you all the info you need concerning power management. Only thing that could still be interesting to get is a BARO sensor and maybe a GPS module ! Than you will also need a expander since most of the jeti RX only have on sensor input !

So :

https://www.electricwingman.com/jeti-duplex/telemetric-sensor-expander/e4.aspx

GPS will also give you height like the baro sensor based on GPS 3d fix ! But i am not so impressed by the Jeti GPS module ! Just need really long to get a lock !

https://www.electricwingman.com/jeti-duplex-gps-sensor-module.aspx

Expander to run several Sensors ! If you are running two RX on the bird though and you only want the telemetry board and the a baro sensor for example you wont need the expander ! You have two ext sensor inputs one on each RX.
You can run the setup in double path and have both RX connected to your one DS 16 thus both sensor inputs over the two EXT on both RX.

Just in case if FW update for the components

Thanks Boris, The DS-16 comes with a R9 Receiver, if I get another of these to setup double path - will I get all 16 channels as well?

Hmm the thing is that it would be cleanest to just use ppm one cable out ! I use the RSAT as receivers ! They output in PPM so you can connect them directly to the WKM over one cable and you are good to go and have full control of the 16 channels. You can take a second one for the zenmuse put but RSATs in double path and use which ever channels on which ever RX.

View attachment 11463

Downside of the RSAT probably not as long range as a R9 or similar full fletched receiver, but at the same time the whole mikrokopter builds standard setup were based on one RSAT and the tell the truth the big birds i would never take further away than 500 meter anyways !

Now to the R9 I am not sure yet if you can hook it up via ppm to the WKM. It has a PPM port but up to now that only worked to connect the RSAT, whats up with the new firmware now i am not aware of. But you can also go with two R9 for example and just hook them up traditionally to the WKM and Zenmuse and tell the system which channels on which R9 is relevant, full 16 channels with both of them for sure !
