certain frequencies are not allowed in the US so they lock (put a really easy glue to get out) on the dip switches and locks it into ch1 for 2.4 for example....... it's always been that way, nothing is or has changed. hobbywireless uses the easiest glue to get out think your trying to hard...

are you sure that wasn't aimed at the wifi feature of the hero? the radio is 2.4, the wifi is usually 2.4......radio doesn't frequency hop like the real ones. i'd check, but the 5.8 should be fine.....
