    KDE4012 400kV Windings, Good/Bad?

Any specific reason for the 55a ESC's? When I was running my build through eCalc, the max per motor was topping out at about 24A continuous. Even with 18" props, the max current was about 32A, at 100% throttle. Just curious...and hoping I haven't overlooked something!

Good point, maybe use the jumper pins to reset the x8r to make sure channels 1-8 come through the sbus. I don't see why this would affect the bind, but worth a shot. Also make sure that you really are pressing the f/s button while plugging in the battery, and hold it for a bit. It is tricky...

Who has a 18 minute flight time with F 550?

17+ minutes light flying for f550 without landing gear here. - Stock f550 frame - e300 motors and sec's - phantom 9" props - 4S 5000mah Turnigy Nanotech battery, flying down to 3.6v on lowest cell (+ about 30 secs more to land). Flight times are down around 10mins with landing gear and a Nex5.

KDE Direct has added Multi-Rotor Heli motors to their lineup

I received mine last week, and there is no perceivable play in them. Rotorvista's issue looks quite extreme. The KDE guys are really helpful. You should try approaching the directly if you have any issues or hesitations.

Heavy Lift Project Setbacks & Moving Forward

He meant the 80a - http://www.rctigermotor.com/html/2013/esc_0916/86.html But the newly released 70amp may work. You might want to let someone else test that first though?! Edit: never mind - thread's moved on!

Yeah, I remember thinking the same thing when I first bound mine. The continuous beeping makes it seem as if nothing has actually happened. Switch off, switch on, and everything is connected just fine though.

    Vulcan black widow X8 build

Here's an up-skirt shot - you can see the voltage regulator and filter in clear heat shrink on the bottom plate with the power distribution board. Then on the first layer of the wedding cake has the Hoverfly Pro and GPS board on top, with the x8r stuck to the underside.

    Vulcan black widow X8 build

I also got some self-adhesive LED strip lights, and attached them to the underside of the mantis arms. They look pretty cool, and should make it nice and visible. They're 12v, but seem to be happy and bright enough with the 9v from the regulator.

    Vulcan black widow X8 build

So, the Vulcan frame. Very simple, no frills, but well thought out. There are pre-drilled holes in the carbon plates for almost every fixing configuration imaginable. I have some small gripes: - my package arrived with some key pieces missing...bolt kits, stand-off, arm patch plates. It's...

    Vulcan black widow X8 build

Hey, great question, I want to talk about the vulcan frame a bit too, so let me make that the next post. edit: just incase it gets lost in the text below - yes, i can't use the 2 side stand-off positions, and the end position JUST fits. The bolt head and the motor do scrape each other - it's...

Hi, just noticed your setup in your sig. McCain I ask what you're using to mount the Sony to your F550? Cheers, A.

    Vulcan black widow X8 build

As I'm still building, I thought I'd provide some commentary about why I chose certain parts - just to open up the discussion. I decided against a separate battery for the flight control. - I wanted some redundancy on the battery, I didn't want to go and undo that by putting a single 3S pack...

    Vulcan black widow X8 build

I got the 400amp power board because originally I was considering larger motors. Eventually I decided to go lighter, and 3 blade prop for smoother flight. The power board is really thick copper. I have a reasonable 48w soldering iron, but soldering this bugger was really hard work. Once about...

    Vulcan black widow X8 build

I've been pulling together components to lift my stills SLR and wide angle lens (14-24 Nikkor). I am trying to get shots from the 14mm as level as possible, and without cropping out the props if possible. Stability is important to get lower shutter speeds and keep ISO down and f-stop up...

    Gryphon GD X8 1200 build

I'm loving this build, and really impressed with the quality of the Gryphon frame - it's outstanding! I went for a Vulcan frame myself because of the 'mantis' arms. I was looking at the Gryphon, but didn't realise they were doing their Z arms. Those carbon arms are spectacular. I had so much...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly setup woes

Some other interesting pieces. - I cannot make the board connect in the Update Client if the switch is in Position 1, only in Position 2. - If I have the board flashing purple before I run the Update Client, I can get to the firmware flash just fine. If I have the board off, and then plug it...

    Hoverfly Hoverfly setup woes

My HFP and GPS board arrived this week, and I've spent the weekend wiring everything up and trying to setup the HFP. I cannot get the HFP setup client to connect, and I cannot get the board to arm. What I can do: - I can connect to both the HFP and GPS board in the firmware Update Client, and...

    Checking in from Sydney

Hi Brewski, looks like you've been well and truly bitten by the multirotor bug. I went with a Naza for the F550, but have got a Hoverfly Pro for larger X8 that's almost finished. It's pretty hard to find people using some of the more exotic FC's in Aus, so I really just took the plunge on the...
