Pete's diy Big Hex Mk2 build blog

A good time to have your camera way below the main chassis. I am also going to have my camera slightly forward, balanced by the batteries at the rear of the centre hub. By having the camera forward, I increase the angle/gap between the base of the front arm and the top of the fov.... I hope...

Pete's diy Big Hex Mk2 build blog

The biggest I've seen on the forums is 900mm. I am only going big as I regularly fly high and visibility becomes an issue with little models. Progress on Hex Mk2. 90 minutes in the shed tonight using the last of my 2mm carbon plate and my new 12mm square aluminium. Colour is from...

Pete's diy Big Hex Mk2 build blog

Man it was cold out there today. I flashed my kk-hex board with tri firmware (V1.7), swapped and calibrated and off I went. 45 minutes airtime today from 3 pilots. Hamilton is about to become tri capital of NZ! 30 minutes of video to edit into something small. Four loops (although without...

The rctimer issues are a kk board problem (that only I have apparently on both boards). I'm running new firmware so I'll have a test this week. Gotta got fly this morning. I have an AP shoot on my boss's 3.5 acre block in Cambridge that he is selling. 10 acres... that's handy! The council...

    Hello to all

My folks are still in Stratford so I get down there every few months. I'll be in touch and we can get with Mat for a fly :)

My hex has been redesigned. There were problems with the wood crushing so I'm now using 12mm square aluminium arms. I'm starting again. I have looked into anodizing my ali arms instead of painting but the cost of acid and colouring was too much (at this stage). Using rctimer 750kv motors - I...

Semi crash today, Problems with Photohigher AV200

Most cameras have a grid overlay in the lcd option. If you use live-view out, put it on a tv so you have a big picture with grid lines :) Pete

Semi crash today, Problems with Photohigher AV200

I'd be slapped if I mentioned "wife" and "broom stick" in the same page!!! I sympathize over the damage. I have seen a few test-flights that don't make sense... like a test flight of a new "Photohigher" movie stabilized 12S heli with $10k of camera and zoom lens - "because the camera was...

I cleaned the shed in preparation :) My diy hex is looking nervous that it may be replaced and pushed into the corner before it has been finished. Thanks Droidworx for a great comp :)

Show what you filmed - Post Your Video Here

There is a fine line between having enough wind to go Blokarting and too much for a small tricopter! After changing the Gopro lens for a Ragecam 6mm, I shot a few minutes of karting at Mt Mauganui, New Zealand. A dark and overcast winter afternoon, just before the rain poured down. The...

I hear you - but the arms will stay in the balsa (probably cyno once aligned) - they will not pull out. The side arms will swivel, one forward and one back and resecure with bolts at the moment but magnets in the future.

Once tested, I will look at removing the outer screws of the central arms and and installing magnetic blocks to hold the arms in place. One step at a time...

I'm already flying a fold-able tricopter with a diy tilt-mount to carry the LX3 camera but it's too heavy to fly as a regular AP machine. While I could simply buy a turn-key large lifter, I enjoy the design and build process. I also like using techniques that don't require large $$$. Less...

    Droidworx Frame Giveaway contest

I deserve to win (despite being a kiwi!!!) because I don't want to be laughed at over my wooden diy test machine... It would be put into immediate AP action and the postage is less to me than most of you ;)

    Another Kiwi...

We just about know everyone here... yup :) I love your kitchen comment! We have had a couple of "Spektrum/JR" losses so the wife knows the value of cheaper, safer flying. She is not complaining about my spending at the moment thanks to me landing a two-weekly construction shoot - for the...

Hi there, my name is Pete and I'm an AP holic... I've been flying models for 30 years, rc helis for 7 and AP for 6 using Trex-600 and Trex-700 helis part-time - proof here: http://www.pbase.com/ascend_photography I'm sorting a mount for this heli soon... after the hex. My tri has a removable...
