New Forum ideas

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
I've had two requests for new forums in the last couple of weeks. I'm happy to here you guys out when it comes to site improvements so here's what's cooking.

Homebrew Electronics forum
The point of this one would be anyone that is developing flight control hardware or software as well as other electrical and/or electronics related home projects. Don't hold your breath waiting for me to contribute to this one but there are a bunhc of you out there that are modifying firmware, building out your own controllers, etc so this would be where you can help and get help.

Off Topic forums
THis sounds like an easy enough thing to do but I warn all y'all, this could get ugly, especially if religion and/or politics come up. On one hand there are a lot of places to explore the many non-multi-rotor topics out there, on the other hand it would be nice to have a repository for off-topic discussions.

Your thoughts on one or the other??

Off topic section would be good I think , I guess you could always trial it and see if it stays friendly :)

Homebrew electrical is probably a good one for me. I could share something like this...

I am testing my new diy octo. I have (at the throw of some switches) tilt and shutter from my tx, or tilt, pan + shutter from wifes tx. The camera base/uc uses power from the main (only) flight battery through ubec's (12v for av downlink, 6v for servo to ensure the octo rx power is not affected by any servo binding.

I thought eveyone nutted this stuff out on their own! If not... I'm happy to share.

How about an area for lifting small animals with mutli rotors?
an area for rats, gerbils, hamsters(hell they can drive cars on tv), cats and small dogs?
i think we could really be on to something here, with the small pet test pilot requirement.

Ultimately dont all of these posts get lumped together anyways? I would think most either look at the active topics or do a search. Maybe I'm wrong.

LOL!

Sounds like a great idea for another photo contest. ;)

Done correctly, you could irritate the FCC, FAA, and PETA all in one swoop!

pissing off peta is easy, all you have to do is breathe :p
and for the fcc, we would have to use a ham radio tx to transmit the signal of the hamsters doing it, to everyone within a 20mi radius :p

I would love to see SHARK bust one of us for lifting animals. Drones spying on illegal drone activity....what's next?

Not in favour of GENERAL discussions.. Think it may cause a minefield of moderating!

1 thing I have ntoiced on this forum....the friendlyness. I have seen 2 threads were things have warmed up, but not to the extent you see on every other forum. Im happy with both the new ideas Bart, I don't mind watching the one area...."Anything goes" ;)

I see no benefit from introducing two new forums. In fact, it can be a negative when wanting to find info or posting something---too many choices. I especially don't see the need for an off-topic forum. The point of having this website is to discuss multirotor subjects, hence the name of the site. There are plenty of other places on the 'net to voice your opinion about other stuff.

BTW...isn't it time to get rid of the "Photo Higher's Gracious Gimbal Giveaway!!" posts?

i think an OFF TOPIC section would be a good addition to the forum

i would ask one thing if this is added

is there anyway it could not be connected to the active threads and just shown when on the home page ?

then for those of us who like to up to date with MR stuff would not have to troll through loads of non related stuff

just an idea if its poss

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Thanks for the input guys. I think what we'll do is leave the off-topic posts for other sites and we'll add the Homebrew Electronics topic. I'll try to get it done before I go to bed tonight. I'd do it now but it will screw up some of the ad placements and I'll have to find the directions I wrote down to fix it.
Thanks!!!!!

I would really like to see the gallery being used more. There are so many talented people out there taking lovely pictures, but they just seem to get lost in the posts.

I vote for a "gallery master" being assigned who looks after a few albums, where the best pictures are posted. I'm not talking about gopro shots of the back yard, but really decent shots which deserve to being shown on the front page.

Also, I am sure this forum software is capable of displaying recent gallery images as I have done here: http://forum.homegrowndrones.co.uk/ That would be great as a landing page, where the images could be displayed.

After all, we are all into this hobby to make videos and take photos, that's what people want to see. Maybe even make another section in the gallery for videos, not videos of people testing their setup, but the really good ones that deserve a mention.

Lets make MRF's a multimedia paradise :)

you dont really need alot of gpu power for video editing, most of the modern gpu's can via software have OS code run on them( ie run firefox in the gpu instead of the cpu) so you get increased speed that way, as you are freeing up the cpu for other tasks, not to mention gpus are far better at maths then a cpu.

:p

I decided to pass on the Off Topic forum for now. Added Hoverfly Technologies forum and renamed the old Software forum to Do-It-Yourself Electronics/Software forum.

Thanks again for the help in working this out.
