Yes I want to barge in and introduce myself. LOL
My name is Rob.
I discovered videos of a quad flying in the Tuolumne Meadows area of Yosemite in January. I flipped. I have backpacked in that area for two weeks at a time. The videos created by SKYCAM5000 got me started.
At the beginning of February I received my mQX. Even before it arrived I learned that I needed a computerized radio to tame it so I bought a Spektrum DX8. Good thing I did.
The next weekend I had the Aerosim flight simulator. The little GAUI quad is most similar to the mQX. So I've been busy improving my free flight skills and learning more about how to build and maintain a beginners camera platform. My policy is to always search for an answer rather than post a question. Thanks to all of you on this forum as well as everybody at rcforums. I've never found a question of mine unanswered. Many thanks to all of you who help newbies like me.
My major purchase today prompted me to introduce myself. I've jumped in with both feet. I bought the Naza M GPS. That purchase has committed me and now both my feet have landed on the ground. I'm in! Previously I began creating foundations by buying a nice soldering station, multimeter, and other tools. The separate parts for the Dji F450 are on order. My plan is to customize the basic F450 with the heavy lifting kit from APM.
I find it all very intriguing. Even today I feel like I know twice as much as I did a week ago. Today I learned to secure Graupner props with nylocks even though that step is weeks or months in the future. There's no hurry. Thanks to those of you who advised people not to buy RTF's and instead learn by building. Building is the path I've chosen.
Best to All,
Rob
