what do people store and transport your quad or helis.

i was thinking some sort of pelican case but off brand! cut the foam out and your set!

looks more professional too!

I built this box a couple of weeks ago to transport my Oktokopter. I may also build in some way of locking my transmitter tray and batteries in place so I can get the box, my tool box, and a generator onto one garden cart for pulling everything to wherever I'm going to set up for a gig.
I originally had it come up higher to protect the props but I used plywood that is too thick for the job and it was way too heavy. I trimmed the sides shorter to lighten it up.
If I were to redo it I'd use 1/2" ply for the base and 1/4" for the sides with the same blocking in the corners for reinforcement.

Nice Bart.. DcktiteI.... wasvjust only working out how I could transport mine if I wanted to travel abroad and for cost reasons have come up with a custom made ply case. I have looked at Peli cases and the other ones.. cant remember the name but quardrocopter.us do some military grade cases for there RTF full monty builds.

That is a nice box Matwellli and I love the back pack idea. Would be cool to show up on a job on my harley with the quad in a back pack. For sure could save some money in gas ;-)
I have not built a box for my quad yet, but will do so in the future unless I find a good one I can just buy. I was going to use plywood like Bartman used but realized it was too heavy after cutting the pieces. Instead went with some thin birch plywood.
Over the holidays I designed and built one for my helicopter with my dad. Having a box is a great idea for a few reasons. Being able to have everything in your box will help you help to not forget things when you go fly and plus I think good for storage. Here are a few photos from the box we just made. Notice I put some handles on the end so I can use a strap. I just throw the strap over the shoulder and frees up my hands to carry a few other things like my camera and tri pod I use on the ground.

i see the control line handles in the background......flown a few circles myself back in the day and trying to get my son to give it a try. didn't realize so many hot chicks fly combat.
nice box Emo. i should redo mine and get the weight down.

Hey Bartman.. yeah funny thing is I got my control line start at the Hollendtownship High School there in Milford with a RingMaster. My dad and a few of the local kids and I would fly over there. I am an expert at control line combat and and yeah sure lots of girl flying the sport, but mostly over in Europe. Hope your sun will pick it up.. its a great sport to share with your dad.

If you look above the box in some of the photos you can see my combat planes.. they look like wings.. but the line pretty much the whole ceiling in my shop and most of it out in my garage.

i've got a half-built Twister on the bench and a Jr Ringmaster hanging on the wall. my son has a 1/2a trainer of some sort but he's just as happy to let them hang there as he is to have a go at flying them.
this spring hopefully. i've tried over the years to get people to give combat a try with me but it's always a ho-hum response. i'll keep trying

How about some military grade containers. You can drop these containers out of an airplane and they would come away undamaged.

Sorry, no can do. I wanted one of these cases in the worst way but I couldn't justify the big bucks they want for them. I just happened to do a search for 'military cases' on Craigslist and I found a PC business within 50 miles of me that had 4 at a ridicilous price if I bought all 4. I kept one and quickly sold the other 3 at a good price.

I have seen these cases at FleaBay so if you want one that's most likely going to be your best bet.

There is one other option. The US government auctions lots of military equipment at their web site. I have seen a skid of these cases sell for $150.00 for the whole skid. Unfortunately here in Ohio we don't have any big military facilities close by that hold the auctions. Can't figure out why Wright Patterson doesn't. Anyway check their web site for a military base near you, and good luck.
