    Can't get into GPS mode

Thanks. Yes it seemed to show up as I was setting up then dropped off once I had it all set in place. Clearly a mistake going for the cheap option!

    Can't get into GPS mode

Here is the offending article!.....and numerous ones on eBay advertised as being compatible. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252133312074?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

    Can't get into GPS mode

When I power up my Telemetry indicates I'm in GPS, just for a second and then it jumps to ATTI and stays there. The GPS switch won't make it go back. This is a new, non-DJI (but advertised as compatible) GPS unit. Do I have a faulty component or is there something I can try to get it working...

    Flying after an underwater 'landing'

OK thanks. When the new ESC arrives I'll do a few bench tests first.

    Flying after an underwater 'landing'

Probably because I stupidly forgot to tighten the props my F550 lost a propellor mid flight and spiral down into a very cold freshwater Scottish Loch. Luckily it was only 2 metres down and with some luck I had it on the bank in less than 10 minutes. As it resurfaced one of the ESCs was fizzing...

High current melting solder on PDB

I've done quite a bit but often quite sloppy. Having an underpowered iron in some situations doesn't help. With the big wires the heat gets sucked out and the solder doesn't always look that great.

High current melting solder on PDB

Yes, correct. The ATTO is then feeding to a telemetry port on the Rx

High current melting solder on PDB

6s runs directly to the ESCs. The 6s also powers the voltage module which then runs to the FC at 5v

climb rate too slow or too fast - pixhawk / arducopter

Trying to fine tune the controls on my pixhawk via mission planner... In the 2 modes I have tested the vertical speed doesn't seem right. In Stabilize if I move the throttle up fill it shoots up like a bullet. And in loiter mode it barely moves up or down at all. How can I tune it so the...

High current melting solder on PDB

I think it is sorted now thanks. I have put the 6s power direct into the PDB for the ESCs and upped the connector in to a EC5 with 10AWG wire. The power module to the Pixhawk no comes out of the PDB rather than flowing into it. I have also added an ATTO 180A to give me current readings. I have...

Hot and puffy lipo after flight test- do I have correct C rating?

I have 2 x 5000mAh 3s lipos used in series to create 6s power. They are 20C rated. I have made an octo and done a bench test after it crashed from over heated wires. In the test I ran it at mid power which was a current of around 35Amps. After running down the batteries to about 3.4v per cell...

High current melting solder on PDB

Thanks Steve, here's the details: All eBay stuff from China... Board spec is as follows: KK Power Distribution Board (x1) Product Details This quadcopter PDB can be used with any frame. It distributes power from the flight battery to ESCs to power the Quad's motors. 100% brand new...

Good to know if I destroy this one in a ball of flames!

    Next machine?

That looks similar but seems like a slightly different version. Maybe it's just the casing that's different. https://pixhawk.org/modules/pixhawk

High current melting solder on PDB

The set up is as follows: 6s power using 2 x 3s 5000mah 25c lipos. 8 x 320kv motors 8 x 45A ESCs Flight controller is pixhawk. Power all runs into component that steps down power to 5v for the FC then flows through to a board to distribute to the escs. The connection broke where the power first...

    Next machine?

It can do the same functions and a lot more. For example 'circle mode' it has a lot of parameters. So much that it may overwhelm beginners. I think it has some command line programming too. Maybe for automatic flights. A lot of tuning capability and more. Maybe more rewarding than Dji if you...

    Next machine?

If your aim is to lift a gopro a 450 will do it just as easily as a 550 so smaller too. 550 I assume would be a bit more stable in the wind. 450= less motors so cheaper and easier to transport.

    Next machine?

I would go for a flamewheel setup. 450 or 550 dji. I was new to RC so it felt challenging but with DJI all parts are pre selected so at least you know it's all supposed to work together. You need to get the 3rd party tx / rx system which is where the learning comes in. My next one I have been...

High current melting solder on PDB

I have an octo diy build which crashed after deans plug melted mid flight. A few months on now and I have rebuilt and done a bench test to repeat the issue. I put an in-line amp meter in to see the current at full power: 85A. This time the deans plugs were ok but the connection popped on the...
