Two clients want me to fly their RED EPIC cameras - advice?

Yes, I should get in contact with them - thanks for the link. A few things I noticed from the video... They've got that Skyjib loaded up with batteries. Looks like they have some big motors too. And I need some of those groovy yellow cones. Looks like bigger motors and some higher voltage...

We're currently running 40amp Turnigy Plush. We may switch to Castle Creations ESCs because their new firmware works well with Hoverfly.

Two clients want me to fly their RED EPIC cameras - advice?

This is an interesting debate about the switch vs. no switch. I'll need to look into this more. The clients want to shoot with the Red Epic because that is what they use for their productions. They want to stick to the workflow they are use to and they want the cameras to match. Can't blame...

New Equipment is Here (Cinestar 8 + HFP + 3xproV2)

Always trying to make it fly even better and lift more.

After some testing, it looks as though we'll need to upgrade the motors - they get a bit too hot in this 100 degree weather. We could do it with the current setup, but it would be pushing the rig harder than I'd like.

Hoverfly One train, one take (shot with Cinestar / Hoverfly).

Thanks, glad you dig it. It was a bit of a rush to only have one shot at it.

New Equipment is Here (Cinestar 8 + HFP + 3xproV2)

Looking good to me. Just make sure you don't tighten the board down too much. I've also been informed that my Xoar props may work better if I try a 5s battery. We'll see.

    Hoverfly Roadtrip to Hoverfly

They are working hard on getting the gimbal board just right. There are folks giving them feedback, us included, that will allow them to make any necessary changes to the firmware.

    Hoverfly Roadtrip to Hoverfly

The Hoverfly gimbal board is pretty darn good as is. We went down there to work on making it perfect - it will get there very soon. Definitely not crying here, smiling in fact.

Hoverfly One train, one take (shot with Cinestar / Hoverfly).

One train, with one chance to shoot it. We were tasked with getting a shot of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. The catch? We only had one shot at it. We came back with several angles of the train - all in one take. Shown here are a few of those angles. More info on the train: brscenic.com...

    Hoverfly Roadtrip to Hoverfly

Had a great day of R&D with Hoverfly. The weather was nasty out due to the tropical storm that we nicknamed "Debbie Downer." But, we ended up flying indoors in some empty office space. The team of folks at Hoverfly impressed us throughout the day with their creative problem solving, commitment...

Two clients want me to fly their RED EPIC cameras - advice?

I've got the QC3328 motors on my CS8. I've got PRC6 connectors on the batteries. I've got 40amp Turnigy Plush ESCs on each motor. I'm currently flying with 4S batteries, but I'm assuming that I may need to upgrade to 5S batteries.

Two clients want me to fly their RED EPIC cameras - advice?

I've thought about ordering one of the upcoming Blackmagic Design Cinema Cameras, but that thing has a lot of quirks. Most of them won't be an issue for flying, but I'd like to be able to use the camera outside of flying situations. May just order it anyway and live with the quirks. But the...

Actually, a TDR is in our future plans (late fall most likely). Fortunately, the shots we need for upcoming projects using the Epic are fairly slow moving.

Why? Because the shots call for it. How? We're working on figuring that out. Thanks for the feedback. Keep it coming. I've got an email in to Tabb.

Two clients want me to fly their RED EPIC cameras - advice?

Anyone on the forum got experience flying a Red Epic with a Cinestar 8 and 3 axis gimbal? Two of my clients are asking about it. I want to know if there are any issues to watch out for, what modifications I should make, and what would be the ideal way to power things. Our CS8 flies great...

We're headed down there at the beginning of the week. We're in Atlanta, they're near Orlando. We'll shoot some video of the trip.
