    Sony RX100

I've been waiting for this one to come out - my existing LX3 has developed a focusing issue after 10,000 AP shots. I know I have used the 24mm a heap but I have also zoomed-in slightly before taking off as the 24mm has made things a bit distant at times... so I will adapt to just use the 28mm...

    Retractable Landing gear

I diy'd one here... 1st flight of the diy octo... but due to the weight (and the small 75g motors) I removed it. Biggest mistake was not photographing the mechanism! I used a single servo with rods from each side / opposite of the servo wheel. They "locked" in place when up & down due...

    Lubing your brushless motors?

I use "Triflow"... just like i did on my helis. Every 15 flights. Pete

It just bit me :) Learned again to take the props off !

I love the priorities of some modelers :black_eyed: It goes like this :dejection: Wuurrr chop chop (owww) wurrr "oh crap" (or similar phrase). Firstly - where is the camera... hey - that looks really bad... (taking the photo one-handed dripping everywhere)... Wife yelling "not on the...

Show what you filmed - Post Your Video Here

A bit of fun in the dark - how does the Gopro2 handle night / floodlights??? Nothing fancy... just a bit of testing... Pete

    Hi from Auckland, NZ

Mainly stills but I'm still working / building on the video side of things. I don't have a big budget and I like to diy. I don't have "James Cameron asperations!". I have worked on a couple of jobs with "Stacky" from Auckland (you will see his name dropping in when he has time). He is a pro...

UPDATE : Toilet bowl in NZ after Firmware 5.06 release

I think it comes down to how many $K you are willing to spend and how good you are at making things work. None of these work straight out of the box - unless you buy a turn-key unit from Tabb in the US. Even then you really need to spend time with him learning how to tune them properly. I...

UPDATE : Toilet bowl in NZ after Firmware 5.06 release

It's great to see so many willing testers in NZ ;) It's tempting to bring the Hoverfly GPS in (I run two HFP boards on the good quad and octo) to see if that sucks down under too. @Rick I spent the last two weekends in Stratford + NP with my Dad going into base hospital. Even SD had no...

Monitoring 2 cameras. An FPV camera and an AP camera

I think the switch idea is great (and I will no doubt try it with solo shooting) but I try to shoot two-up on commercial shoots. Pete

Monitoring 2 cameras. An FPV camera and an AP camera

I have run two 1.3G feeds off a Trex600 AP heli and I am sorting my octocopter to do the same for a shoot next week. I use two independent 300mW TX'x - one on the rear left u/c leg and the other 400mm away on the base of the right u/c leg. The multi's radio Rx is in the front of the hub with...

    SF prop.

A SF prop usually has quite wide blades. They provide a huge amount of air movement at low speed. A multi is rarely flying at 50mph straight up... which is what standard props are designed for. They are not designed to be reving full speed like many narrow blade or pointy props. I tried...

Hi from Massey Uni - NZ

Pukeko... welcome. Great intro. I spent 10 years in Palmy... and a little local company called Skycam used my cameras in the early days in testing 20 years ago! Are you flying fpv, autonomous guided or using your eyes? I have flown over a few of the Massey farms myself. Pete

    Hoverfly Scary descents..

The IT issue is sorted now. When I flew my machine with the gain too low, it flew "ok" but felt lose and sloppy (hard to explain). It is a credit to the HFP board that even a poorly set up octo still went to 350' safely! It was locked in better in AL but it wasn't as nice to fly as my quad...

    Hoverfly Scary descents..

My stats of the octo: 860mm motor-motor RCTimer 2836/11 750Kv APC 10x4.7 4S4000 battery 3550 grams all-up. Motorcalc has it at 2.05:1 at the reduced / used battery voltage. Hover is at 36A, climbs well at 42-44A. It is a stills ship, not a rocket. Climbs really well at 55A :) HFP on...

    Hoverfly Scary descents..

Hi Andre I can help a little. I have HFP quad and octos and I have had trouble getting my octo down without the wobbles. This is what I found through testing last night (cut n pasted from the RCG HF forum...): -------------------------------- My diy octo has just done it's first...
