My first real practice... blowing 15mph. This is a heap of fun. I'm looking forward to trying in in no wind... Pete

I've only got one heli left... the 700 :-) Yes, I'll have a go once the weather settles. Sunday looks good... I have a shoot with the octo and a full-size shoot :-)

It’s ugly and I cant get the KK2 auto-level to work properly... so I wont. I’ve spanking it in manual mode. The perfect trainer – and I've been practicing Mat’s pylon-racing fig 8 challenge around the cricket pitch. Harder than you think! The 15mph wind didn't help. I’ve just flown 3 3S...

Rc device used to drop prizes over crowds of people?

In my younger days, I did my works kids Christmas party lolly-drop from a Trex600. I removed the camera and made a tray (out of foamboard) that I could carry 2Kg of toffees at a time. My camera operator tilted the tray when required... I flew in at 50' @ 20mph in case I had a flame-out and...

I just don't get the whole battery thing...why can't you use all the available power?

One charging option I've used... place the battery in a high-sided heat-proof baking dish. The charger is beside it with the wires connected - nothing strange here yet! Now - a lipo fire cannot be put out/restricted with water. I have a 5lb bag of golden sand that can sit on top of the bowl...

Where to buy 4s Lipos in New Zealand?

I agree. I bought 4 x 30C 4S4000 Nanos. 2 lost a cell in under 20 cycles. The other two at usable to 50% only after 40. Only flown in 10-26 deg condition and never exceeded 12C usage. Oh well... I might have just got a bad batch...

Where to buy 4s Lipos in New Zealand?

I have used the Zippy 25C on my Trex's for several years and they have outlasted (by a huge margin) the Nanotechs. As Stacky has said - If you need help (advise) on how things work down here, no worries. My only warning is if you are flying gps guidance, some of the FC systems struggle with...

    Multirotor Pylon Racing

I'll get some practice in when the 30mph wind stops. I've built a "disposable quad" for such occasions. The octo will be spare in a month or so... that would look awesome. I did a handling demo with the octo north of Auckland last Sunday. It moves very well when you don't have a camera on...

Where to buy 4s Lipos in New Zealand?

Another place is in Hamilton,http://www.hobbyhangar.co.nz/ Ph: +647 847 9835 but I suspect you will have a better chance for large 4S packs from Stacky's recommendations. Any indication of what production? ;) Need a pilot... :D Pete

Turnigy nano-tech LIPO's Anyone used them?

It sounds like you have already got some gens... I have 4 Nano 4S4000's where two lost a cell within 20 cycles and the other two are down to 50% ueable before low-volt after 30 uses. Never taken past 75%, never charged quicker than 2 hours. Not again... I use turnigy Blue 25C cheapees and...

I build my own camera mounts. Any idea how height between the dirt and under the VM u/c? It fits an AV130... so how high is that??? ;) Pete

Prop choice - APC or change to Xoar (or any other rigid props)

The Xoar 12x4's arrived and I got one quick flight in last night before dark. Nice and windy with turbulence coming through the trees :D Observations... it revs more than before and hovers about 5-10% higher stick position - due to the thinner blade compared to a SF prop. It flies much...

I did a + diy hexa and I didn't find the front boom a problem - but I had the camera mount under the front arm forward of the central hub. The battery was on the rear to balance the weight. I will need to see if the legs are tall enough to keep the camera clear of the front arm. I haven't...

I'm what I regard as a typical Kiwi diy modeler. I've been APing for 5 years part time with a heli and started the multicopter thing 2 years ago. I have a "disposable fpv quad", a good diy quad and my main light-weight diy octo. Well after two years, I am not convinced that I can diy build...
