DJI Inspire LiPo fire on airliner

Looks like the battery left in the Inspire was the bad actor. Makes sense to take it out when transporting it.

    New cinema Gimbal

There are several major flaws with this design. Way too heavy. Keeping an Epic cool on a hot day is hard enough. Black is a bad choice of color but people use it as they think it looks cool. You need fast, easy, tool-less access to the camera or it is more trouble than it's worth. This...

ALPA weighs in on UAS integration

Very true. They were much more in favor of exemption if the operator had a commercial rating so self-serving is very accurate.

FAA gives DJI Phantom Green light for commercial flight

Thee FAA does not have legal authority to grant relief for PPL requirement. I'm still amazed the didn't stick with CPL like ALPA insists they should. I wonder if the realtor will actually report each time he has a fly away to the NTSB like he is required to?

    Seriously?

Very true. There is a midwest video producer that bought the US's first Aerigon drone. For the last 10 years he has hired a couple of experienced drone companies to shoot aerials for him. One stopped flying for him because he was always asking them to do something stupid and risky. They even had...

    Seriously?

I went to their website after seeing the interview below at the LA Drone Expo. They sounded really professional so I figured I would check out their website and videos and discovered the exact opposite. You are both spot on. http://www.internationaldroneday.com/tdsd-meet-rotorfx-flight-school/

    Seriously?

Here is a company claiming to have the first FAA certified multirotor flying through a tunnel on a active roadway that obviously wasn't locked down. How was this any less careless or reckless than Trappy's VT flight? Section 333 specifically prohibits flying from moving vehicles and at night.

    Intuitive Aerial Black Armored Drone

Do you have an idea of the cost to buy OEM replacements for the arm and leg. I'm not implying your repairs aren't good, its just I'm not comfortable having a client or FAA inspector see them on such a large copter.

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

I am writing our manuals for our section 333 exemptions right now for Electric Utility inspections. Here is the difference. I would not collude with the Electric Power Reasearch Institute, the Edison Electric Institute, or with other operators, using proprietary information as a group in order...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/standards/general-recavi-uav-2265.htm?WT.mc_id=1zfhj#safety Kloner seems like a nice guy but that is not the point. Smart people don't try to drive a square peg into a round hole. The MPAA and these companies in no way had yours or my interests in mind when...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

Late to the party? Really? You geniuses have pretty much made sure the party is all but over. Am I the only one that thinks that the MPAA and these exempted companies basically did nothing but make the entire regulatory situation 10 times worse? By using proprietary manuals as a group, they...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

One of our primary functions if to use sUAS to inspect large structures. To do this, the aircraft is routinely about 10' from these structures. If the operator has the owners permission to fly this close, then the listed distance restrictions are not needed. We also don't employ a VO in such...

    Representation for Commercial sUAS

There are so many problems right now it's hard to get your brain around them all. The FAA is about as well equipped to stop careless and reckless Phantom2 pilots as Federal Marshalls are staffed to stop texting and driving. The only way this is going to work is if FAA leaves enforcement of...

NTSB Court Rules on FAA vs. Pirker Appeal...18nov2014

The ALJ was not incorrect. Since the definition of aircraft is so broad, technically it now does include frisbees, footballs and baseballs and this is a problem. Trappy's flight was reckless and not worthy of compensation but that's another issue.

NTSB Court Rules on FAA vs. Pirker Appeal...18nov2014

Since both footballs and baseballs are both designed for flight they must now be considered aircraft. Will quarterbacks and pitchers now be required to get a PPL and a COA to play commercially in outdoor stadiums? Will they even be allowed to play considering stadium TFR's? Should I drop Peyton...
