    bicopter experiment

bit of a learning curve, bicopter using vectored thrust took a bit to get tuned, intial tuning done tethered it is not very sucessfull, can hover around ok, put too much pitch angle and she either gets out of control (large mass not enough authority) or it goes too far (more than 30 deg)...

    Do your motors do this?

With esc's. - unpowered, if you turn the motor, it generates a small voltage, that voltage can leak thru the the power transistors (fets or mosfets) and cause them to turn on, causing brake effect, with no battery required

Helicopter versus Multirotor for Aerial Photography

A multi would be the best first step, you can hover a 1 kg quad in the kitchen on a windy day, try that with the same sized heli. Use the multi to get your co-ordination sorted, then step up to a heli when you need too - helis cost money when you crash them in the early stages

    hot glue quad

Back to my fixed wing roots - foam and hot-glue! A work in progress, just the wiring to go - based on a minsoo Kim microquad and my favorite tail design - this one is 220 mm motor to motor

    battery question with 14.8

@jhardway - it depends on the esc. Inside the esc is the battery Eliminator circuit or BEC Basic BEC circuits simply burn off the excess voltage as heat, and those ones you should not use to power up anything if running on 4s as the heat they can generate is enough to shut the esc down, or in...

    battery question with 14.8

when you run 14.8 volts you must ensure you run a seperate bec, and not use the one that's built into the esc - it is really only designed to work on 7.4 volts, so has to disipate alot of heat at 14.8 volts. Use a bec please, or a fireball may result :)

    Advantages of multiple batteries debate

one advantage if you carry the extra pack, is not the increased flight time, but the decreased load on the packs, as you are now discharging them at a slower rate. The other advantage, is if one has a cell go bad, the other pack will keep you flying

    rctimer esc's and problems

Try dropping your update rate to 350 Hz. I have used 32 rct esc's and had about 5 fail. They use the same processor as the turnigy plush ( hobbywing) All I use now is turnigy plush, never had a failure

    My new Y6 CC

servo ports on the FC board? You could plug it into a spare port on the receiver, or on one of the esc plugs where you have removed the red and black wire, just inset the red and pack pins from the BEC

looking for good threashold number for a 14.8 lipo

Simple - divide your current values by 3 and multiply by 4 :-) I.e. if its 10.3 volts, then the new value will be 13.73

    My new Y6 CC

Hi Jake, yea , you need a thing called a BEC or SBEC or UBEC (battery eliminator) they take the battery voltage, and drop it down to 5 volts and 3-8 amps , a dedicated supply. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10313__Turnigy_5A_8_40v_SBEC_for_Lipo_.html

    My new Y6 CC

Looks very nice - ESP the wires in the arms Please don't fly it like that. The bec in the esc is rated at 2 amps with a 7.4 volt suppl on 14.8 volts it will get very hot and either shut down or catch fire, seen it happen Please run a seperate battery or sbec for the electronics

GST (Import tax) when buying from Hobbyking, Any experience?

@Pete I have never been pinged on RC stuff luckily, even with a declared value at $1600, just lucky :-)

GST (Import tax) when buying from Hobbyking, Any experience?

Whatever your country's tax rate is, usually 15% of the value, plus a clearance fee( in New Zealand its $60) Normally only get stung when the declared value is over a certain threshold, here its $400 for Aussies its $180 I think. What was the declared value? Normally HK declares the value at...
