    Another "Pete's diy Y6" build thread! 800mm motor-motor

To keep the camera FOV free, 140 deg between the front arms, 110 deg between the front and rear. Calculate the c-o-g to be half way between the front and rear motors. Remember, the copter doesn't care where anything is except the motors and the balance point! SleepyC - Thanks man. I love...

HobbyKing 30Amp BlueSeries ESC or Afro 30Amp w/ SimonK Firmware?

I have Afro 30's in my new 3Kg 4S Y6. Quiet running... no programming, just worked. Pete

    Another "Pete's diy Y6" build thread! 800mm motor-motor

Airframe only 2580g Airframe and gimbal + Gopro + SD card 2980g Flying with 1 x 4S5000 pack 3550g. No lights yet but the orientation is so much easier than the flat hexa (DW VM-6) that I don't know if I'll bother. Especially since since CAA grounded a local for flying a Phantom at night...

    Another "Pete's diy Y6" build thread! 800mm motor-motor

My diy small balsa/fibreglass Y6 was good but I wanted something bigger that would handle the wind. I needed to carry a brushless gimbal/Gopro2 or my Panny LX3 for stills. It needed to fold for travelling. Run on 4S5000 packs as that is what I use on my Droidworx VM6 I should be more...

    New NZ online store

I get my batteries from Hobbyking (for multiples) or Hobbyhangar or "Mrpositive" for singles. R/C gear - one-offs from Hobbyhangar. Any volume or expensive part - usually Hobbyking, Towerhobbies (USA). The local shops do charge a premium for the convenience. Frame parts... I build my own...

    New NZ online store

CAA in NZ want to certify/approve airframes as "suitable for the task". I asked what qualifications the inspecters would have? Also, how would they inspect my new DW VM-6 replacement DIY machine... diy ply/fibreglass hub plates, 24mm pine arms turned in the lathe (to look pretty)? That I had...

    New NZ online store

As an existing r/c photographer (of 7 years) I get weekly phone calls from people wanting me to set up there machine (or company) for them... including a commercial weed sprayer 3 weeks ago who had seen some stuff on the internet and was willing to throw NZ$30K / 15K euro into some bloke to...

Hey Ross Drop down to NZ for a week or two! Stunning weather... we will look after you! Off topic... Knowing your passion for aviation, check out my playing with the camera at a local airshow last Saturday... and the blue stuff in the sky? It's called "fine weather" ;)...

You are correct. Use a fixed cam for fpv. You worked it out for yourself but still checked... nothing wrong with that ;) Pete

Aeronavics / Droidworx Sky jib v1 or Y6

I just love my Y6 configuration. Easy on the orientation - and worth it for a small efficiency penalty. They also handle the wind better than a flat 6 (although my VM6 rocks). I'm building my 4th Y6 now, the latest will replace the flat 6. Arms fold for transport, orientation is so easy, it...

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Droidworx Booms

I back my local businesses and I appreciate it can be difficult with tight margins... but I'm afraid some push it too far. I have been designing, building and supplying parts part-time to the AP industry for 7 years. I know what is reasonable. Charging $25 to walk 10 meters to pick up a box...

    Aeronavics / Droidworx Droidworx Booms

I'm with Stacky on this... in fact the local guy who imported the Chinese very cheap tubes said that they were glossy, unlike the Ti booms that are matt... so he gave them a once-over with 2000 grit paper!!! They look... ahem... just like the "real ones" ;) He also weight/strain tested them...

    Hoverfly Something Big?

"Canada Goose" on the RCG AP forum posted it... it was released on the HF Vimeo channel. That's all I can find out so far. In these times when companies are "out there" with their promotions really quickly, I would have expected a little bit more... In NZ, AP from tethered balloons or kites...
