Aeronavics / Droidworx Droidworx AD-3 Specs vs. eCalc

Are you switching between one and two packs and adjusting the AUW appropriately? You have it set to "including Drive" so it won't automatically recalculate the weight as you have it. Best is to subtract battery, ESC and motor weight from your current AUW, then set that top line to that weight...

Aeronavics / Droidworx Droidworx AD-3 Specs vs. eCalc

Ignore the second "C" figure - that's the burst rate (and as such more of a marketing claim than a reality). Select a 4000mAh 25C pack from the list - the lower C rating means the pack's voltage will sag slightly more under load - that should squeeze you in under the limit ;)

    Opto ESCs vs. SimonK ESCs?

"Opto" refers to Opto-isolation, the separation of the signal side of an ESC from the power side by an opto-isolator component. This is designed for high-power setups where one side may interfere with the other. It doesn't affect "speed". SimonK, Castle and a few others have created MR-specific...

    SkyJib vs Cinestar for Epic

First - it would help to know where you are in the world ;) Second - others may disagree, but I believe you're starting at the wrong end - I'd be making my gimbal selection first and then looking for a suitable frame to fly it. I'd say the Radian gimbal stabilization system is probably the best...

    Octocopter with Red Epic

Yes, you will - so you'll get a slightly shorter flight time - but remember that you also lose some weight, so that gains you back a little time. The important trick is to run a slightly higher pitch on the bottom motor so it gets a better "bite" on the fast moving air coming from the top...

    Octocopter with Red Epic

I think a part of the sluggish behaviour will be down to the diameter - 133cm motor-to-motor! That's quite a size! Yaw authority, I'm guessing, is "not too good"? Roll/pitch responsiveness is "lazy"? Personally I'd lose four arms and go X8. I don't think you'll cure the problem with smaller props.

    WKM Optimal RC Radio System

That light at the end of the tunnel is probably a mirage, a trick of the light. The tunnel seems to be infinitely long, with lots of unexpected twists and turns ;)

Note, too, that eCalc is calculating the motor efficiency at hover as around 75% - which would normally indicate an "inefficient" setup.

    S800 alternative props

Here's the issue as eCalc sees it: Ferdinand's endurance setup (hoping all my numbers are right): eCalc gives up and says "No way, man!" Reduce the propeller pitch to 7" and eCalc coughs up a solution, but still insists that everything is going to melt and burn: Yet, by the evidence, this...

    S800 alternative props

Just my thought on this particular statement... When flying at speed the blades are not facing the airflow, i.e. the craft is not pitched forwards at 90º. So the incoming airflow is at an angle to the plane of the propeller. Therefore the consideration of the AoA in that condition has to be...

How to modify a Align DS510 servo for 270°/360°/continuous rotation?

By how much is the splined bore too small? I've heard of (but never tried it myself) people successfully using heat to press a plastic bore onto a spline. Presumably heat the male spline then press the item onto it - and probably best to never remove it once it's on there ;) Maybe Google/Youtube...

It may be overkill, but if one were looking for high-precision collars to use as bore adapters, then Misumi offer (at a price) configurable machined collars in steel or stainless steel (with a choice of precision tolerances) and polyacetal/Delrin (with less precision). No doubt, though, that if...

    S800 alternative props

Please, Ferdinand - you're sounding defensive (I could be wrong, hard to tell sometimes with written exchanges). I'm not attacking or suggesting you are wrong about anything. I'm genuinely interested that your results seem to contradict the "conventional wisdom", which itself is based on the...

    S800 alternative props

It's the science, Ferdinand - too high a pitch at too low an airspeed induces blade stall (separation of the airflow from the propeller's surface). "Pitch" doesn't produce lift, swept area (diameter) does. Pitch is increased for faster airspeeds (i.e. in the incoming air flow) and reduced for...

    Lipo connectors

The other thing I don't like about any of the soldered connectors, when using fine multistrand, is the tendency of the solder to wick down the wire under the insulation. I agree you can, with a good iron and perfect technique, keep it minimal, but you can't prevent it. That's extra, unnecessary...
