Red Epic, Skyjib8 or Cinestar? & which gimbal?

Tabb (FreeFly) has said recently in another thread he's been testing an Epic combo and will be offering it for sale in the near future. :)

    S800 alternative props

I understand and agree with what you're saying, jffry7 - but you've kinda diverged from my post. I'm not complaining about DJI per se, and I'm only passing a light comment on Denny's enthusiasm for the S800/Z15. I'm simply seeking a full understanding of the Z15. It's easy enough to research...

    Water buoy floatation system

I like the WaterBuoys - I'm going to get some myself. Of course, one has to be realistic - it's just to prevent your very dead MR and very dead camera from sinking without trace. :) The parachute system - I'm deeply sceptical. The main problem is the height of the MR at deployment. As with any...

    S800 alternative props

I'm becoming increasingly confused about the Zenmuse. All the initial reports said everything was "brilliant" etc. There was the whole crazy issue of "supported lenses only" and so on. But, though it has taken time to come to light... - the Zenmuse does lose the horizon in certain...

Lipo - when is puffy to puffy

Hi Jack IMO puffing is an indication that at least one of the cells is starting to break down. Since it would highly undesirable for that break down process to finish in the air, I'd regard any pack that has started to swell as junk. Maybe a fun flyer would continue to use such a pack, but on a...

Why Waypoints? Why not Black Box Safety?

I see where you're going but I view it slightly differently. In systems terms it makes more sense to put as much of the computing power as possible on the ground rather on the craft - the flight controller has enough to do already and, as with all embedded systems, you actually want that part to...

If you can fly one multi rotor can you fly them all ?

Ahah! So is this the upcoming change Jim heard about or are there one or two more steps in between? Double ahah! Exactly as I thought. There are still, though, multiple instances of very shady wording on their site. If they've been asked several times to change it then why are they apparently...

    Deans are killing my fingers!!!

Ouch! Such a silly small pad to attach the incoming power for a heavy-lift okto! I presume the negative is on the underside of the positive (I'm looking at picture of the Octo XL PDB). Tricky - you want to be able to solder two 10AWG wires onto each side - not sure how easy that's going to be -...

Hoverfly Horizon off level after curved turns/banked turns

Sorry - pmacafee - it's to do with the mathematics that goes on inside the controller - the gyros, accelerometers and so on each supply their data but you then have to "beat it up" with some heavy-duty maths to arrive at an "attitude estimate", i.e. the estimated attitude/angle of the camera...

    Deans are killing my fingers!!!

"Deans plugs are fine. If you are running higher amps then there are other options that also work great." - if that makes you happier ;( - though I think I've already said that in several different ways. Where's the "more/more/more" in anything I've been saying? P.S. Tell ya' what, Bart - a...

If you can fly one multi rotor can you fly them all ?

Sorry, Jim, didn't mean to knock EuroUSC with that question - I could have chosen my words more carefully. Read together with the other stuff I've said, I'm simply trying to get to a full picture of the situation and the possible future. That's not to say that I'm all for EuroUSC - I'm not, but...

    CS8 for cinema

Interesting to hear you lay out your position, Tabb. It's exactly as I had surmised it from observing your sales success and your personal composure. I'm in the process of designing a commercial frame/gimbal system myself so I can certainly concur with the effort and expense required - my...

If you can fly one multi rotor can you fly them all ?

Did you get the impression that this is on their own initiative? Sounds to me like the CAA have assessed the results/feedback so far and told EuroUSC to up their game.

    Too close

With respect, this should be a very sobering lesson. You really need to "ground yourself" until you have a better FPV system. Plus, of course, you need to be more aware of your flying environment. Call me an old f***, by all means, but currently all the negative press is about the "drone"...

    Deans are killing my fingers!!!

You'll be fine with EC5 Connectors - just make sure when soldering that you don't get any solder on the outside of the barrel or you'll find it difficult to get them to snap into the housing afterwards.

    Deans are killing my fingers!!!

Do you have shares in Deans, Bart? ;) Not sure why you're so keen to defend them. It's certainly not just me ragging on Deans connectors. Google turns up oodles of evidence that many people find them awkward, difficult, vulnerable, etc.! I totally understand what you say about the "RC...

    Deans are killing my fingers!!!

Okay - definitely you need to replace basically everything between the batteries and the ESCs :) I'm not familiar with MK - can someone verify what the ESC/PDB setup is there? It looks like the ESCs are mounted on a PDB but where does the power feed in and is it to a single point or multiple...

    Deans are killing my fingers!!!

60/40 is a 60% lead and 40% tin mixture - no silver. Solders that include any percentage of silver (there are many variations) require higher heat and tend to adhere less readily that their lead/tin counterparts. Definitely needs more skill (and better equipment) to solder correctly with it...

    Deans are killing my fingers!!!

189A may well be the maximum capability of your battery pack, but the actual current drawn will depend on your rig. Hopefully it will be less than 189A, otherwise you'll have problems with the battery! :) The amperage "rating" of a connector (as well as the wire) assumes a certain temperature...
