One thing to keep in mind if trying to run the new corresponding app on the iPhone - it requires iOS 9, which has had some reported issues. The other thing to keep in mind is there may be restrictions on the parks you fly in. National parks have been banned for flying as far as I know. Make sure that you check the regulations before you find yourself on the wrong end of a costly fine :)

That sounds like a damn good plan. I think you will find that you will be able to learn simultaneously from the sim and the small quad. Good combo for getting the feeling of flight down, orientation etc. then you can move to a larger craft when you feel comfortable and ready. Keep us updated!

It's hard to know which firmware version is on the ESCs unless you flash them yourself to be sure. If for instance they have SimonK pre-flashed, a newer version may have been released and put on the newer ESCs in the time since you purchased the original ones. Unfortunately, in my experience...
