Who knows Sony's rationale, but here's my take:
They need to save real-estate on the ever smaller cameras so they invented the "MULTI" port to do all those occasionally used things. This works great until you want to do 2 together, or the technology changes.
The MULTI port allows you to plug in...
At risk of perpetuating this discussion, I thought I'd say with regard to IR triggering of NEX-5 and HDMI output:
a. The problem is with the camera, its not a problem with gentLED-SHUTTER - even Sony's own remote control doesn't work!
b. The work-around is correct, use MANUAL or AUTOFOCUS...
There are two versions of the gentLED:
gentLED-SHUTTER controls SHUTTER or PHOTO only requires a 2 position switch
gentLED-shutterPLUS controls SHUTTER and VIDEO, requires a 3 position switch
gentWIRE-lancPLUS, for professional camcorders, now supports Blackmagic Cine Cameras, including their unique set-focus and set-iris commands:
The unit can be controlled by up to 3 RC channels on the deployment device as follows:
- Ch. 1 controls REC, STANDBY and PHOTO, with the latching...
For professional cinematographers flying RED Epic, Scarlet and One cameras gentWIRE-RED controls record START/STOP via a wired interface on the camera. Operation is controlled from a spare channel on the deployment vehicle RC system. Normally a channel with a toggle switch is employed for...
Dave,
Can you email Gentles Limited (email on web-site). We are very keen to understand why customers have problems so we can get them working, we are sorry you didn't have a good experience with gentWIRE-landPRO
James
Unfortunately there are no current production cameras that can smoothly zoom with gentLED - ZOOM. The LANC OPTION will work with a camcorder but not a dslr. We are working on some new ideas but for now the options are limited. Sorry!
Sorry, I'm not clear - or maybe one step ahead of myself.
I'm trying to get any handle I can on why it works in some modes and not in others and what that has to do with IR and HDMI.
With OBJECT TRACKING enabled (which seems counter intuitive) we're not really in "pure" auto-focus mode anymore...
