Sony alpha/ nex cameras camera use Help! Easy for you gurus

Who knows Sony's rationale, but here's my take: They need to save real-estate on the ever smaller cameras so they invented the "MULTI" port to do all those occasionally used things. This works great until you want to do 2 together, or the technology changes. The MULTI port allows you to plug in...

    Sony Nex-5n - downlink

At risk of perpetuating this discussion, I thought I'd say with regard to IR triggering of NEX-5 and HDMI output: a. The problem is with the camera, its not a problem with gentLED-SHUTTER - even Sony's own remote control doesn't work! b. The work-around is correct, use MANUAL or AUTOFOCUS...

    NEX-5n / HDMI / gentLED incompatibility

Sorry, I'm not clear - or maybe one step ahead of myself. I'm trying to get any handle I can on why it works in some modes and not in others and what that has to do with IR and HDMI. With OBJECT TRACKING enabled (which seems counter intuitive) we're not really in "pure" auto-focus mode anymore...
