Going to make my first quadcopter - I need some help

At first I want to say that I have flown two quadcopters (WLToys V929 and Hubsan X4 with 2mp camera), for only a few weeks. As you understand it might not be the best idea for me to build an quadcopter. But the thing is that I think this quadcopter might be ready in August. In the meantime I will be flying with my RTF quadcopters a lot and hopefully feel safe flying them. Before I begin to fly my own build quadcopter. This is my set up right now, which I plan to buy. But I want som critique. Is there something I should change? My plan is to be able to have a steady flight with enough power to fly with a camera and fpv.

I think the only thing I would change is the motors and get a lower KV rated motor, especially if you want to lift cameras etc. This is a really nice set of motors here and is what I use on my Y6. https://store.3drobotics.com/products/motor-ac2830-358-850kv-1 I have used those ESCs on several MR's and they have worked just fine. I haven't used a KK 2.0 but many have so that should be fine. I have Turnigy batteries and like them. I have no experience with the charger or the frame but both look okay. Props look okay. I don't know much about the Radio system but again many people have them so okay there too. That power distribution board is in sevral of my MRs so really, only the motor is an issue with me.... Good luck!

Sounds like you have a good plan for practice before this bigger quad is ready.

I would not recommend that PDB - I had one fail. They may sell others that are higher quality, or you can just solder a squid yourself.

The frame is a bit heavy - so make sure you go over to eCalc and plug in the components to see how those motors will do. Might be worth checking out if SunnySky has a comparable motor for similar price. The quality will be good and should probably give you a good starting point.

Also, make sure you get at least decent props. Even if you expect to break them - APC or HQPROPS don't cost much more and will be healthier to balance and in the air. Don't forget to buy a prop balancer.

Good luck and have fun.

The KK2.0 has been superceded, grab a KK2.1.5 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...ght_Control_Board_With_Remote_Programmer.html

Wrong motor, you want one with a short shaft and better bearings, the NTM's are quite fragile. Grab some SunnySky 2212 980kv and use 9x5 props.

Just go 4S, don't waste your time and money with 3S.

What radio are you using? Okay so I see you are getting a 9XR, much better to spend a little more and just grab a Taranis, it will end up cheaper in the long run and give you access to the FrSky receivers without having to go through updates and mods and crap like that and you end up with a much better radio right away.

Yes. I've got that advice earlier but sadly I can't find any brushed motors around 900kv, in European stores. I would like to skip the American stores as that most likely would end in many different costs. Shipping cost, VAT (25%), maybe duty (25%) and also another 13 dollar just to pay to our post service.

How hard is it to solder it. If I fail once, can I redo it?

I've tried eCalc but the choices haven't been correct. I can't find the motor I have and other stuff there, so I just take another that is the most close one. But I do not know if that would get you a real result. Because sometimes they are pretty different it seems.

I will for sure search for those props. :)

Do you know if this prop balancer will work good?

The only one I found that you can buy from the European warehouse.

Yes. The KK2.1.5. seems to be the only one available in the European store too. So good. :)

I have heard that the NTM is pretty fragile. I don't think I have the NTM right now but earlier I was wondering to buy those. But I heard they had bad bearings. I sadly can't find any SunnSky in any European store. Not Hobbyking or any other. :/

Would going up to 4S reduce the flight time, you think?

I am thinking about buying the Turnigy 9XR. But I've got the recommendation to buy the Turnigy 9x instead. So I am not sure.

Aliexress have the SunnySky motors at a good price from quite a few sellers.

Just buy from the International store.

4S will increase flight time.

If you get a Taranis all the mods are effectively done for you, so no mucking about, no modding, no getting other modules to get started and the price ends up only a little more than getting the "cheap" 9XR.

The motors I might afford to get from an international store but I do not think I can afford the Taranis from an international store. Hobbyking says the price is $172.25. Well, maybe worth it. But adding VAT and other things will make the price more than 268 dollars. That is why I would like to have it from an European store. Thought I agree that a normal priced Taranis might be better as I guess it will be good for many years to come. Something you spend money on once and can use it on many multirotors.

Is this the one maybe?

If I have brushless, will I need something more then? Read about a speed controller or something but I can't find it now. :)

NO those are Angel cheapy motors. I made that mistake when I ordered my SunnySky Motors. Had to re order after PeeDee gave me the right info and link. These are the ones you want to buy and they are dang good motors. http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale...x2212&catId=0&initiative_id=AS_20140619164528

I bought the DuBro prop balancer and it works good, especially if you have extra long props in the future. There is a goof video on how to balance longer props available with the DuBro.

I bought an additional 6 of them after first order for next build

Best of Luck.

What about this motor? I would really, really only want to order from European stores.

The Speed Controllers you talk of are the ESC's in your first post, the Afro 30A ESC's are great.

Pete
Looks good but sadly not anywhere in Europe. :/
Good that the Afro 30A ESCs works fine! :D

If you will only buy from Europe and want rubbish motor then you are on your own.

Cheers

I don't want to buy a rubbish motor, but the NTM ones seems to be the only one available in Europe?

I am absolutely sure that those are not the only motors available in Europe. You just need to decide what quality you're willing to put up with and how much you want to spend.

Do a little research into hobby shops that aren't HK. There must be a few :)

I got some help from another and I found out some Swedish stores even. Do anyone here have experience of T-motor (tiger motor)?

Also I found out that the SunnySky is available on banggood. That is better than an American store at least. As the chances are higher there that I do not need to pay such a high price. :)

Tiger are great quality. Many say sunnysky is similar/same for 1/2 price. If you are willing to shop at bang good (china) there is very little that you can't get.

I am trying out the eCalc program now. But I am unsure of what I should put in the "controller". If I have the KK2.1.5, what should I add there?

Also, at "# Blades:". What does that mean?

Not to forget, what is exactly "drive", in the section "inclusive drive" or "without drive".

Controller er is speed controller (or esc). The number of blades is...you guessed it, the number of blades on the prop. 2 is typical. Some people have 3 blades props.

Inclusive of drive is if you are plugging in the total weight of the MR. If you choose without drive, it calculates the total weight based on the individual components you plug in.

Ok. Thank you.

I think I have gotten a result now:
