450/550 Flyers - Share your Landing Gear and Landing Gear/Gimbal setups

I just got the aeroxcraft landing gear for the F550 in today and I'll be working on it this weekend. I also ordered the VTR125 gimbal and my first impression when I took it out of the box a little while ago was "wow". Great workmanship. Looks like a nice solid gimbal and very well put together. I'll update this weekend.

Here are some shots of my 450 and 550 setups. The 450 CF sticks weigh nothing (almost) I grooved them on a milling machine and Zip-tied them to the 450, they are very solid.

I sometimes mount my GoPro under the middle of the 450 in the no-vibe setup you can see in my 450 transport box. Most of the time I just fly it. The longer legs are good in longer grass and rough ground situations, and they are not effected by the wind.

I will be replacing my 550 gimbal/legs, they are MKTR Pro's right now, with a YAN-1 brushless kit that I will be building a set of carbon legs and battery shelf for as soon as I get the new gimbal.

I also have a S800 with Zenmuse, it is wonderful but huge and very heavy in comparison to these kits, not to mention expensive.

Looks great..... BTW.... DJI manual recommends the LK900 antenna be pointed straight down.....are you able to do this or are you flying it with antenna horizontal?

I have the AeroXCraft F550 landing gear and the VTR-GP gimbal with a GoPro HERO3. Very nice setup. Great quality! The gimbal works very well, and hooks up to the F550 Wookong-M super easy. Be sure to get a BEC!

Getting excellent signal from the downlink with the antenna horizontal. I have not tested anything beyond 1/2 mile though. My waypoint demo's are all within line of sight at the moment.

Thats surprising as normally antennas are supposed to be down on the heli and up on the ground. You sure about that? COuld be deceiving if the antenna was in a high RFI area. Sometimes just moving the antenna 1/2" can make a huge difference.

Have not had any issues within my 1/2 mile range. I'm sure if I go out further, I will have to relocate the transmitter so I can position the antenna down.

Well pulled all the legs off, blacked out the arms and fit the AeroXCraft F550 landing gear. Bought the gear used and assembled so bolting it on was a breeze, no drilling, lines up with the slots on the 550 lower plate, fairly light for what it is and overall I'm very impressed. The battery "holder" could use a serious redesign as it is essentially two vertical plates which sandwich the battery and then you have to swear mutter and curse two straps around the battery to hold it. Surprising that this wasn't really thought out well when the rest of the Landing Gear clearly was. No clue how difficult it is to assemble from a kit new but seems to be pretty straightforward. Its slightly lower than the GotHeli legs which when combined with the Rope isolators the GP3 Black cased is at the EXACT same height as the bottom of the gear. With the GP3 uncased there is clearance. One advantage is that there is a LOT more real estate to mount stuff so 1.3ghz came off - 5.8VTX went to one leg and 2.4RC went to the other. This allowed me to drop the gps flush to the top plate and get instant lock. Previously the gps had to be mounted up at least 3 inches to lock. No clue how it flies yet. With the legs both Iris and Gotheli it was fine right up to 15mph avg. i suspect this will be a 10-12 mph bird now and a lot less responsive but the whole point was to be able to fit a brushless and turn it into a B-roll bird I can put into places I don't mind losing. Hopefully the brushless fits. If so, then I have a new favorite LG for sure.

Almost embarrassed to show mine. Made from Carbon Fire Arrow Shafts. I get mine from an archer. He gives me his broken arrows. Attached with double sided tape and tie wraps. Simple and light and free!

No reason to be embarrassed... That strategy is, by far, superior to most that I have seen.....
a) minimum weight increase but excellent strength using carbon fiber.
b) money saved for more important accessories.

Hi from the UK. I've used a set of skids from a 500/600 size heli that I picked up hobby stores parts bin. Just need to add a suitable camera mount and reading this thread has given me some idea as well as showing some I had already considered, such as the Batmount.
