Ken, Why so negative about Futaba...can you expand on remark, "...the only thing I would use a Futaba radio for is to prop a door open..." I am trying to select a radio that will ultimately be primarily for AP. I'm just getting my feet wet with multi-rotors, have an F550 on order with plans to move to a bigger platform ASAP but want to purchase a radio immediately to begin familiarizing myself with it & using it with AeroSim...So, my selection is down to Futaba 8FG-Super vs JR9503. I see pros and cons for both, but you sound very adamantly against Futaba. Please explain, and thank's in advace for sharing your thoughts...most appreciated!
I've owned four Futaba radios and every one of them had problems from minor annoyances to it died completely within days of purchase. The last one was a 10CHG, and besides feeling clunky in my hands and having a non-intuitive setup program, the throttle trim stopped worked within 3 months and the battery pack that came with it died rather quickly as well. If I fiddled with the trim tab long enough I could sometimes get it to work but I solved the problem by selling the XCell Spectra-G I was using it for and threw in the radio as part of the deal, last Futaba I'll ever own.
Since I started using Specktrum from way back when it was first introduced as plug-in modules to my current JR 11X, I've never had a single problem with any of them. I still have all of the SPektrum gear I bought from way back at day 1 and it all still works perfectly, some of it ground based and the majority of it for flying. If there's one weak area with the Spektrum it's the antennas which I seem to break at least once a year, usually because I do something dumb like drop it or knock it off the bench, no real fault of the radio though.
