Tracking & Orientation

I'm new to MR and have a DJI Naza kit that I'm learning with. Several years a go I lost the sight in my right eye and, in general, have no depth perception. As long as the MC is fairly close to me, I can keep orientation and perspective of the MR. But I'm concerned about higher altitudes and greater distances away from me. The Naza kit I have has two red arms and two black---that helps. I wonder if LEDs along the two red arms (front) would help. I have no intention of flying at night, but wonder if, say, red LEDs would be bright enough during the day to help me orient the MR. My intent is to perform AP from the craft.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

i too have depth perception problems. I have found that for orientation, white leds are more bright, but for me the best thing for orientation is a 5th arm at the back, acting as a tail. I actually did make a vertical fin to put on the tail too, to help me with lateral orientation.
No i have built a Y6 machine, and the frame itself is much easier with orientation. But at distance , you have to learn to fly FPV.. i have successfully done around 10 fpv flights, and it is much easier to get close to targets and do what you want, but first you must be sure you can fly the machine in line of sight.
here's a pic of my 'old' machine, before it became a Y6.. sorry for small size, but google+ doesn't offer full size image url copy any more...

I always put the red led's at the rear, it matches with tail lights on a car :)

My eye sight is not the best at a distance either, thats why I started doing vtail multirotors, so i have a point of reference

I have a hexacopter and I have installed 6 bright LEDs to show me the orientation. I have 2x red on the right, 2x green on the left and white front and back. I always remember "red=right" and it really helps.

The LEDs are from an online modelling place, I can't search now because I'm on the phone, I'll post the link later. You can see the pics here: http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?p=18559

Keith, the only reason I did it that way was red=right was easiest to remember. I know other aircraft or boats may have other ideas :)

and there aint no rules so what ever suits works

I've got red on the front and blue at the back. sins blue is much more visible, as is green.

maybe the following is good for your problem

View attachment 1989View attachment 1990

some high power LEDs an a ping-pong ball with a small hole, makes for a very visible orientation point vs. a normal LED as you can see in the pics

and if you are worried about losing the MC maybe get the wkm...

good luck :tennis:
