Try putting the camera on a higher F-stop, something like F.13, then put the lens on infinity ( this will give you deep DOF ) also set it to full manual. I too have the D7000 and i hope nikon is going to add something like 60p recording.

This was a quick test with the focus thing.

I do not recommend stop down much under f/8, diffraction will eat a lot of sharpness in these very small lenses. f/16 is already very soft with 14-42 GH2 kit lens. With high quality primes it's slightly different, but even with my Phase One medium format camera i can see a lot diffraction after f/16. I recommend using ND filter rather than stop down under f/8-11.

Gonna check the other ones out thanks !

Have the transcend Class 10 here but no chance with the 88 one. Dammit those 95mbit cards are expensive :)

Boris,

Check this faq, there is recommendations for cards, so far i've tried Transcend class 10 and SanDisk Extreme HD Video SDHC 30 MB/s, 32 GB and SanDisk is slightly more stabile: http://www.personal-view.com/faqs/gh2-hack/gh2-hack-faq

B
est details and picture quality i've got out from HG2 for now is definitely Driftwoods Sedna found here: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/...majoris-sedna-orion-pictoris-rocket-etc.../p1It is just amazing quality patch, even with very high ISO-settings image is very film-looking with film looking grain but no noise like we are used to with factory settings. Sedna is just too high bitrate to use in aerial works as it comes unstabile after couple of mins recording. Most stabile patch i have tried yet is Driftwoods Cluster v1 with Orion matrix, it has actually never freezed camera yet even keeping it recording 1h and more.

THANK YOU !!

Now I get the weird expressions. I was beginning to feel like the class idiot.

I just tried this GH2. OMG! What a difference. Even out of the box the video is so clean and sharp compared to everything else.

Live monitoring is going to be a problem though. The AV output is disabled for recording and only does playback.
The manual says that HDMI is available for both recording and playback but I cannot get a live preview signal out of it, only playback.

How do you set it to output video from the HDMI for live preview monitoring?

I noticed analog does only playback but i haven't tried yet HDMI recording view, i just assumed it will work. I've been shooting blind for now but just ordered HDMI-composite adapter, crap if it's not going to work either. Then we have only fpv camera option but it's not the most appreciated way.

An expression has stayed with me and it always comes to mind every time I use the word assume. The expression is:

To assume is make an A$$ of U and ME. I too 'assumed' the HDMI would output live video and guess what? It does! But there is a problem. I have started another thread on the subject. Scoot over there to save messing this one up.

Hi Boris , I have just ordered a Sandisk Extreme pro 64gig card because I have other class 10 cards that simply cannot cope , The Sandisk can handle 94mb/s .. There not cheap though ..
@ Jeff did you manage to record at 88mb or do you just prefer 720 60 @44mb

This is no art, but i took Cinestar to first flight after swapping esc:s to Hobbywing 40A pentiums and here are the results. This is raw clips, no post stabilization added. Shot with GH2 with 14-42, ISO 800, Driftwoods Cluster V1 720p. I didn't have time for balancing Cinestar well yet and it was toilet bowling, but quite happy for the stability.

Thanks Boris,

it's quite low bitrate long gop overall setting for slower cards but with very nice matrix. Not even close as good in low light as sedna but like it though and at least it is very stabile. Maybe i'm just going to buy that expensive 95mbs card too and dont look back..

Here is Driftwoods description:

(Panasonic firmware v1.11 & ptools 3.64d '200212' required). Settings for GH2 & GF2 Lumix cameras. Stats: Upto 72M 24p, Upto 36M HBR, Upto 36M 720p modes. (*All REC MODES include B frames)

INFO: Very simple Long GOP cluster of i/p/b frames principle, Low Bitrate, conservative settings for all round use with a nice matrix for Type 6 card users. After so many requests from non GOP1'ers to provide the Orion Matrix in a Long GOP configuration I settled on this one to hopefully satisfy the need. I like 12 GOP / 15 GOP for Long GOP - as far as editing goes and converters out there, the Ibbpbbpbbpbb (12 GOP PAL) and ibbpbbpbbpbbpbb (15 GOP NTSC) is the most universally supported GOP structure outside of Intra. A nice cluster of i/p and b frames and appropriately titled methinks. Hopefully, this will keep long duration seekers, type 6 card users, and HBR peeps happy (though I doubt I can please all of 'em).

Do most of you guys who shoot stuff like the above do so flying FPV or line of sight... I want to get some cool shots once i get my wkm dialed in but dont have fpv gear

@ Elliot - Its a whole new ball game with gigs on..!

So much easier to get what you want with video.

For stills photography its not so important but some form of down link to see what your camera is seeing is very useful. Get the shot quicker

@ RC flying - I was waiting for one of them foggy early morning misty type low sun shots to do the same.. good stuff

Cheers Dave.

I did the church video line of site, but I do use video goggles sometimes also. I didn't take them with me that day because I didn't get them charged up in time. I actually told the guy from the house next to the church, who came to watch, about using goggles and how I would have been able to go much higher, and fly along the line of those tall trees from above and see all the crows' nests.

Hello everyone,

Just did a mashup all of my recent 2012 vids and made a Reel. Was fun to see all the footage that didn't make it into the initial videos. Some sequences with the cinestar 2 axis gimbal and some with the 3 axis. Was a lot of fun!

Cheers!

Here is another raw video camera comparison test at the visually uninspiring and very gusty airfield ... but it does have the 'detail resolution test' tree.

The NEX is the odd numbered stills (1, 3, 5, etc) and on the left during the moving shot. The camera settings were identical and OIS was on - it should not have been but I could not quickly work out how to disable it on the GH2 so I enabled it on the NEX too.

Sony and Panasonic have different ideas about what is 'standard' colour and what is ideal exposure. The GH2 looks a little dark and has more green - sort of in line with some annoying Hollywood tastes.

There is no doubt that the stock GH2 produces a sharper image right out of the can. Also, it's OIS handles the pan at the end much, much better than the NEX.

here's a clip from my first fpv session. it's using the flamewheel/wkm.

footage captured with a japan-fpv sd card recorder and is "as is" from the quad, bit unimpressed with the fatshark camera/2.8 lens as its as blurred as hell around the edges despite ages fiddling with it to get the best focus. might try a pixim seawolf as they seem to be getting some good reviews.

the experience is quite thrilling, despite being a bit sedate - but better to take it steady, than be a c0ck - and can only be improved with a clearer picture and down the line, better goggles.
