Red wire on esc

I have been flying my F550 with WKM for a couple of weeks now.
A friend told me to not cut the red wire on the esc even though it's mentioned in the manual.
Is this right?
What is the consequence of flying without cutting this wire?

with dji esc's, you leave the red wire in tact, the systems is using that thing with the led on it for a bec as well. In normal esc's not OPTO, they have built in bec's in each one. when you have that, you want to unclip the red wire from the plug and heat shrink it back. if you ever had to re-flash em like simonK or whatever, you want that red wire to put back in
