The other night we were contracted to go film on the Santa Monica Pier. The production company pulled all the permits so it had the cops on set providing security or baby sitting or whatever. Apparently somebody in the area has been screwing with people out there to the point the city made an ordinance to make flying "drones" on the pier illegal. fast forward to the shoot, having heard that i kinda made the roll out of us under wraps, it was at 10pm at night so it wasn't that hard, however as soon as i broke that chopper out and started prepping for flight, they came forward and stopped me. said if he just let me fly that thing right now he'd be putting his job at risk, we asked if were getting a ticket if we fly and he said yes. Trying to be a steward of this industry we had to pull the plug and go home without powering up....... SOB, makes me wonder if getting permits when they are available would even help. they said the new rule even grounded all kites for a 3 mile stretch either direction of the pier, said there considered drones..... You can't put your head in the sand when you hear things like that,,,, Dunno what to do but man, every iconic place will be anti drone by the time we actually get to do it legitimately.... gotta be all them phantoms and the "cool guy"
