*Ive decided on a Y6 Config for best forward field of view for Aerial Photography
*Its going to be aluminium tube and plate construction with the option of switching parts to CF if I run out of weight.
*Ive got some RSB clamp parts coming to clamp my booms to my central frame.
*Im kind of making it up as i go along rather than spending days on a CAD package.
*My final choice on drive is the Tornado Thumper 3536/8 (1000kv) spinning 15x4 APC-E props
*Will probably go with Hoverfly board as this keeps cost down - dont need gps at this stage but can add it later if i need to. (they would hopefully have got rid of all the problems with it by then) I also like the fact i can use off the shelf ESCs
*I have no idea at this stage how im going to fabricate a camera mount and if i will try to include tilt stabilization etc - but i will worry about all that once ive got it flying.

A rough sketch of the layout :-

I will start building when the parts start arriving and post here any progress and questions.
Im very excited to be starting this journey.

There will be 2 Y6 configs at this weekends meet.... Both mine.. I love um!

Good choice in my opinion.. Good luck and keep us posted

Dave

Changing my HFP quad to a Y6 as i want better view, more lifting power and a bit of redundency. It seems to be a configuration that is getting more popular (or im takeing more notice?)

Will have it in one form or another this weekend...

The latest batch of OpenPilot CopterControl will go on sale within the next few days. Much cheaper than Hoverfly (less than €100) (and better IMO). Watch here for news.

Roy,
I have 2 HFP boards and 2 CopterControl boards. The CC boards are a great board and brilliant value for money but in my experience don't fly anywhere as well as the HFP boards. I have just sent one of my HFP boards to Pete Kirby who uses these forums, he should have the board this weekend. Pete does AP professionally and has years of RC experience as well as AP experience with large RC helps. He has been using the CC board a lot over the last 2 months and my advice would be to hold off on buying a HFP board for a few more days and send him a PM early next week and see what he thinks of the HFP. My opinion on the boards is admittedly biased, Pete will give you a more balanced view comparing the 2 boards plus he has a ton more experience than i do.

Jes1111 and Stacky - thanks for the input

I will not be buying my control board for a while yet - I have spent all the pennies from the piggy bank on materials and motors etc so until I have something resembling a Y6 copter on my workbench I can leave the decision as to what brain to give it until later.
