I am interested in the Hexa and Octocopters. I came across the them by accident about a year and a half ago. I was looking through some Youtube videos and on the side, a video popped up about hexacopters. I spent the next 2 days trying to find out all the info I could about them. I could not find a dealer here in the U.S. so I stopped looking.

I have no experiece with R/C airplanes or helicopters but I really want to get invoved with the Hexa or Octocopters. I am interested in the photo and video uses of the units. I have spent the last week reading as much as I could from this forum and it seems to have a lot of great info. Any help on where I should start would be great.

Hi Microfoe,

welcome to the forum. Concerning a reseller you can check out http://quadrocopter.us/. Hmm were to get started. I think one thing has to be clear to you is that its not a product which one switches on once a week and takes it in the air to shot some great videos forgets about it and uses it again on a random basis, even if you buy it RTF. If you want to shot nice videos wobble vibration free it really means to work with the kopter and to spend a lot of free time with it. The learning curve is steep but totally doable, if you have the time.

Have you made the decision if you want to buy a RTF version or build it bottom up yourself ?

Microfoe where in Texas do live Iam in Central Texas about 45 minutes from Austin. Be warned these things are highly addictive and there are no clinics to de-multi-rotor that I know of. All joking aside they are fun and they can be as cheap or expensive as you what them to be, alot of trial and error with stuff some works and some dont changes from person to person but never the less its very fun.

My advice is to go to a local RC shop, but a RC transmitter 7 or 8 channels & then get yourself a good flight sim, try Phoenix RC & pratice flying RC helis on that sim. It will save you $100,000's & its fun ;)

Boris, I think I want to try and build it myself. I have the time to work with the copter and become a decent pilot. If I decide to build it, I am going to ask a lot of questions and ask for a lot of advise.

Michael, I am in the Houston area.

by the way i fly the copter a lot on the countryside (Austria) were we have mainly voluntary fire brigades. The chief master or whatever you call him checked out the copter and got really nervous. He said that thing with a video downlink would be perfect for them to check out fires, specific sites etc. Never thought the interest was really there but i guess it exists.

Microfoe the building yourself is a good idea. I bought it RTF and the respect to brake something was to big. After having to take it apart completely and fiddle here and there i final got down to the basics and got less afraid with the self confidence it can be fixed.
