G'day All from the Land Downunder

Just a short introduction. I am an environmental consultant with an interest in using UAV to capture data from remote ground based stations. I am also interested in using UAV to do small scale mapping of rivers and creeks, such as weed mapping and erosion analysis.

I am currently in the research phase of UAV. I am looking at different platforms, configurations, avionics systems and autopilot systems. My goal is to have something up and running towards the New Year.

I look forward to contributing to the Forum.

Patric.

Hi Patric,

A few questions you need to ask yourself!

1)What camera weight do I want to carry?
2)Whats your budget?

For heavier weights you are looking at 6 or 8 motors, that puts you mainly inline for a OCTOCOPTER or HEXACOPTER.
Have a seach on youtube to see both types in use for aerial work.....then with a rough idea in mind, you will at least not be put off ;)
Welcome aboard, the guys dont bite...much ;)

Regards
Ross

Thanks for the warm welcome.

In response to Macsgraf's post :

1)What camera weight do I want to carry? - looking at using Nikon D series Digital SLR so around 800g, I am also looking at a handycam type video camera so areounf 500g for that.
2)Whats your budget? - That depends on how you want to spell divorce :) The budget is a couple of grand at this stage as my company will pay for it. Having said that I am pretty handy with a soldering iron and tool kit.

thanks
Patric
