male vs female

Hi all
Total newbie question. I'm gettin ready to start my first build (as soon as I finish renovating our bathroom) a 450 clone and all my parts have arrived. What I forgot to order though is the wires to connect the orange rx r910 dsm2 9 channel 2.4 GHz receiver to my APM 2.6 FC. According to hobbyking I need male servo connectors. Is that right? The rx and apm both have pins to connect to. Where I come from a pin is male and something that fits over it is female. Does the RC hobby world have this reversed?
And also what is the sbus port for? I think I figured out that I don't care about the satellite port for all

sbus is a single wire connection from futaba compatible rx's to a flight controller. some of those open source controllers do ppm through them too like ezuhf or dragonlink. but check first, not all, i never messed with apm[/QUOTE]

Thanx for the response.
