Lateral play in motors

Its like a lower bearing or bushing is wearing out, some more than others. How concerned should I be?

"Very" :) - I foresee a crash in your (very near) future.

Replace the bearings (using new circlip and shim washer if present).

Really? Patrick and AerialMediaPros are pretty highly regarded around here, especially by anybody who's done business with him.

With the going rate for Avrotos, that leaves a reasonable amount left over for the conversion mounts, so I don't see the problem.

Bison52, I did the math and I didn't see a problem either. As far as the motor, without getting too techinical, I took the motor apart and the bearings are fine. Seems the main shaft had pulled out slightly from the outer casing. I gently tapped it back in and it tightenend up. this was on two of the six motors. No crashes, except from a chest high hover when a DJI prop broke. I've had it roughly two months to not alot of hours either.

In my first month or two of flying when it seemed landing right side up was a rarity worth celebrating, I noticed play in the rotors a lot too. It seems that you don't have to crash hard, a prop strike not even hard enough to crack a prop can still mess up bearings. They're not that expensive and I got a supply and replaced any that were remotely suspect.

I'd like to know where to buy the shims and clips in the US though.

But my prob wasn't the bearings, it was the main shaft comming out of the the outer motor hub.

Oh, and BTW, howdy from a fellow Texan. Ever heard of Plano?

Ok, regarded or not, to me $69 for 6pcs of alu is... not how we roll in Sweden

Specially when selling DJI F550 clone for $50 (from Hobby King $27) and listing it under DJI frames (do DJI like that?)

$50: http://aerialmediapros.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=25_27&products_id=126

Same, $27:

Or take a quick look here:

$1,590.00: http://aerialmediapros.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=18&products_id=151

Here you got more than $1000 left to buy a radio and lipos....

www.goodluckbuy.com/dji-f550-naza-arf-multicopter-quadcopter-kit-with-esc-motor-propeller.html

Again: buy a li-po from HK, sell it for more than double the price.

HK: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11951__Turnigy_nano_tech_2200mah_3S_45_90C_Lipo_Pack.html

AerialMP: http://aerialmediapros.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=140

I know we got a free market economy in the world, but I really hope the people who buy a RTF F550 kit with 1800w of sharp props know what they are flying...

LOL, Brant, of course I've heard of Plano. We're not that far out in the sticks here in Lubbock although I agree it seems like it sometimes. More people will know where Lubbock is in the next few days after an idiotic rant by our brain dead County Judge made national news headlines. Look it up, it was the lead story on CNN for a while this morning. I didn't vote for the guy by the way.

Just a question guys.
I just ordered new ceramic bearings for my motors.

Now, how do you guys put on the clip on the shaft?
Because mine were bent/stretched to far when putting them on causing a lot of play on the shaft.
Do you push your clip from the side? Or do you guys slide it over the shaft?
What kind of pliers are used for these little clips?

That depends if the clip is an E-type or a C-type (referring to the approximate outline of the clip, looking like the letter E or the letter C). The E-type is pushed on radially (i.e. from the side of the shaft). The C-type can be put on the same way, but better to use a pair of "circlip pliers".

In either case, you should get yourself a plentiful supply of the clips and always discard the clip when you remove it and use a new one to put back on. Cheap insurance ;)

My shafts are 3.15mm, so 3mm E clips are the ones I need.
Okay, I'll have a look around where I can get them in europe
