iCharger 406DUO Settings

Hey guys, fiddling with my new 406DUO to charge my 6s lipo's. I find it a bit confusing compared to my previous charger... What settings do you guys use?

I got a 70amp 120 volt power supply attached to it, trying to charge my Tattu's 6s 16,000mah lipo's.

Thanks!

P.S: Anyone received theirs in Chinese? I had to change it to English. No big deal, but wasn't easy :highly_amused:

so a 16 amp hour pack charged at 1c is 16 amps, Tattu are good to 5c charge rates which would be 16x5= more than you can output.....

no i haven't seen chineese, talk about a challenge

while your charging click status once and you'll get your ir readins on the fly, individual cells and at the plug at the bottom.... good stuff

Thanks bud, can i charge it at 4c then? 16x4 = 64amp? Or it's safer to run it at 1c? 2c? 3c?

I have a duo and it's so much nicer to use than my old iCharger. Menus and everything about it is quicker. LCD screen helps.

I charge at 1 or 2c almost all the time. If I'm in the field and I need something quick, I'll up the rate. From everything I've read and learned on this forum, 1c is the preferred rate for extending the life of your battery.

What i'm trying to figure out is charge time. I don't mind slow boating it when i'm home, but when i'm working on-site i need it fast.

Any idea where i can find a calculator? I tried a few from google searches but they were pretty wrong (or vague...).

Just saw the maximum amp i can choose is 40amp, which is about 2.5c. Guess i'm limited to that!

How much damage am i doing to a tattu 6s 16000mah if i charge it at 2.5c often???

Your actually limited by your power supply being 70A, so the max you could probably do is around 30A per channel. (if your lucky)
You may want to start looking at least a 1500W power supply, if you want to use the charger fully.
If you want to charge at 32A (2C) just make sure you have at least 10-12 AWG charging wires connected, or they will begin to melt pretty quickly.

Chargng time will usually be the same for a 5000 mAh or a 16000 mAh battery if you think about it you are charging at 1C, it should be twice as quick at 2C, expect a NORMAL balance charge to be around 35-40 mins.
There is no need to 100% charge your lipos if you want them quick, its the end balancing that takes up maybe the extra 10 mins, so you could charge to say 97% in about 20-25 mins at 1C

Just keep a closer eye on your charger/PSU for excessive heat etc, as charging these batteries is a whole different ball game.

I can only get mine to 25 amps times 2 with the meanwell power supply......

we usually always charge at 20 amps so 2c on them packs and no damage is seen, but that's why you want to hit the Status button and keep an eye on them numbers. write them on the packs or on there logs to monitor them....

Just got my first generator setup with my chargers/PSUs today for the first time.
Went for the Yamaha EF2000IS (2KW) instead of the Honda EU20I which a lot of people seem to be using, after quite a bit of researching.

I know its pretty expensive compared to most out there, but hopefully it will pay off in the long run as it is supposed to last much longer, (up to twice as long as the Honda) and its light 21kg and quiet 51dB @ 7m and run for 10.5 hrs on 4.5L (UK)
It handled 2x 10400 mAh lipos at 2C pretty easily with plenty left in the tank.and its pretty good looking were Gens are concerned..

I'm using 8 and 10 AWG wires. I could double my PS, there's room for another one for a total of 140A.

Going to try to charge them at 2C and see how it goes.

Thanks!

You can parallel charge with the 4010 at 70 amps. But your only charging one pack per charger at that point. We use three 4010's with three esp120 power supply's at 3k watts @51v. Smokin! .. and could still use more 4010's. [emoji6]

Finally got around to charge with it (actually charging a lipo right now).

I'm using those settings on a Tattu 6s 16,000mah lipo:
Battery Type: Lipo
Charging Type: Charge/Balance
Lipo Capacity: 16000
Current: 20A

Freshly fully charged, what voltage does a 6s 16,000mah sit at? What about once it's rested (30 minutes)?
In the past, my 6s 10,000mah sits at about 25.2-25.5 right after being fully charged.

you should see 25.2 and 4.2 a cell,,, it's usually within .05v per cell

did you press status to see the IR? if not do it, if i don't make a log i'll write it across the sides of them to compare later....

IR gives me
Cell 1 1.4
Cell 2 1.2
Cell 3 1.2
Cell 4 1.2
Cell 5 1.2
Cell 6 1.1

Edit: I set lipo capacity to 16,000mah, but in Info it shows: End Cap 19200mah?....
Edit2: Done. 4.2 each cells, max temp was about 41 degree's, with safety set at 45 degree's. It was it's first charge/balance from manufactury. Put in 7568mah + balance which is quite slow.

nice packs.... no idea about that last part, if you had two packs maybe that was combigned or if you did multiple packs on one side it is acumulated mah?

Not sure, manual isn't clear. I'll search around.

Very nice charger. How often should i charge + balance instead of just charging such a large pack?
