There's an old saying, "too much power is almost enough". However, unless you are making a speed demon for racing this is not correct. It's all about ballancing the system to the airframe.
The 12's will spin an 8 inch prop just fine, but will be pushed to the limit swinging a 10 inch.
The 15's will spin a 10" with ease, but you really don't gain much advantage spinning an 8". What little advantage it would have would be eaten up due to increased weight.
So, there are other ways to develop more thrust with the 12's if you desire a demon in the sky.
First will be to reduce weight. Everything comes down to weight.
Next, and a very close second will be prop design. Airfoil shape is critical according to application.
Combine the 2 and you then have a high performance machine that will blow you away.
There are other factors, too, like streamlining to reduce drag, but you have to weigh this against the added weight.
Round booms are more streamlined than a square boom without adding weight.
These are but a few examples.
What it all comes down to is what you want the airframe to do.
