Has anyone tried this lens with their GH3 or 4?

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
HI all,

I was reading this article

http://www.popphoto.com/gear/2013/08/rise-f4-zoom-lens

and one of the models listed in the article struck me as particularly interesting for an aerial set-up using a GH3

panasonic lumix 7-14mm f/4

i'm thinking about making a little plate with focus and zoom servos for the GH3/Movi as a continuation of the review and to have for aerial work.

Anyone try this particular lens yet?

here's the review from dpreview.com

THanks,
Bart

I have that lens. It's the ideal wide zoom for the GH4, and perfect for interior shooting, architectural shots, landscapes, etc. The huge negative is that there is no filter thread (it has a convex front element and permanently attached hood), so for aerial work you can't mount a typical ND filter. Apart from that flaw it's a great lens and probably the go-to lens for a lot of GH4 video shooting.

I have it too.....go to lens, no ios, it's only downside.

Got a 77mm rocketfish nd filter that came with a 72mm adapter, that adapter goes right over the existing hood, but makes 9mm or less vignette....

it's not much for low light but sure is crisp, the zoom on it is very minimal,,,, to really make a lens pop like a news chopper zoom is that 14-140.....

one thing that stands out on all the lumix lenses is there not real smooth and easy to zoom/focus in and out.... that's where the cinemized lenses come into play.... declicked and are generaly really smooth to adjust ie. rockinon/voightlander.... dunno how that makes a follow focus behave

There are a number of folks (me included) who have come to the conclusion that image stabilization on copters with good brushless gimbals (I use a MōVI M5) is not a good idea. I've flown my Panny 12-35 with and without OIS on, and it's hard to tell in most situations, but there are a few cases where it seems to "fight" with the MōVI, and now I always leave it off. If I'm shooting stills I turn it back on, but truth be told, I shoot stills mostly with my 5D bodies.
