Do you need a ground station to do short range fpv?

If I plan on staying withing a half mile or so will a fatshark system work without a ground station? I'm new to fpv so I'm just trying to get it all figured out. :tennis: Thanks.

You'll be lucky to get half a mile with the basic FS set up but that probably further than is legal where ever you are! If you are new to all this then look at the FS set up as a close quarter system to learn on, it is very good for that.

Ive got 1.9km using IMMRC 600mW 5.8GHz VTx, and FatShark AE. The key is to use circular polarized antennas. I use RHCP CL on the VTx, and RHCP SPW on the goggle Rx. No need for ground station, video was excellent, it was my R/C range (2.4GHz FASST) that was limited, as it started glitching at that distance.
