Canon 7D video out question

I have a mini usb torn apart and am trying to figure out how to transmit live video. There are 4 wires on my mini usb, red blk grn, white plus the ground wrapped around. My wireless transmitter obviously only requires signal and ground. Does anyone know how to get the 7d to transmit live video through the wireless video tx? I've tried soldering the ground on the blk wire and testing the other leads with no success. Any input is greatly welcomed.

The video signal thats used on the 7D is digital so it wont work because you need an analogue signal. Maybe scour around and look for some sort of digital to analogue converter?

Not true malcr001!!!
The 7D, 5D, t2i etc... All use the same A/V out and it is indeed an analog signal.

Dexport- you will need to hack a Canon A/V cable, as the USB does not connect to the right pins or something ( don't know the details, only that it doesn't work). You can find cheap ones on eBay.

Isnt that what dexport already said he tried? Oh well my bad, I havent actually tried getting AV out for video transmission so get back to us if you find a solution.

By the way dexport what multicopter are you using to lift the monster which is the 7D? I have a 7D and always thought it would probably too heavy for most multicopters.

He tried the mini USB cable, which is physically different from a canon A/V cable. Many people, including myself have done it for years. No offense, but you should stick to giving advice on things you have experience with, so as not to spread misinformation.

The cable he has tried is most likely this:

If you know how to do it and have so many yars experiance then show him how instead of hammering me when I was just trying to help the guy. Obviously thats backfired on me.

I did tell him. Once he has the right cable I'm sure he will have no problem figuring out which wire is which. I tried to use the same mini usb myself, with the same frustration.
Sorry, I only hammered on you because you stated, as fact, completely wrong info.

That cable looks like the one he needs, not the one he tried.
He said, "mini USB"
That's an A/V cable.
Different plugs with the same shape, so they both fit, but they do different things.

looks like the same cable you posted Malcr001. They are very fragile and stick out the side of the camera a lot which may mess with your gimbal setup, maybe look for a 90 degree HDMI to VGA connector
I know a few companies are making them. It takes a few seconds from the time you hit record for the digi signal to down convert and get to the monitor which would suck eggs if you were trying to fly fpv and turning the camera on/off.
What kind of Multi beast are you going to fly this with dex?

Just finished Assembling Canon 7D FPV cable

I just completed a FPV A/V cable for the Canon 7D with the stock cable that came with the camera.

The cable end that plugs into the camera looks similar to a USB cable but there is a rounded part on the bottom of the plug. If you are wanting to use this cable for FPV then here is what you have to do.

1: Determine if you want audio and video to be transmitted to the ground station.

2: Cut the cable just above the square piece near the RCA jack (Or no less then 12" from the USB just incase you mess something up)

3: Strip away the black from the cables exposing 1 yellow 1 red and 1 white cable that is surrounded by bare copper cable. The bare copper is the ground. choose ONE of the cables (I chose the yellow Video signal cable) and twist the copper cable about an inch behind exposed yellow video cable. This will allow for soldering at just the right length in the upcoming steps.

4: On the red and white cables cut the copper as close to the black shielding as possible as you will not need it.

5: strip about 1/4" from all three cables, twist them individually, and pre solder them.

6: If you only want Video and no Audio then solder the Black or in some cases Brown Ground wire from your FPV TX to the bare copper ground wire from your Canon A/V cable together. Then Do the same with the Yellow wires. Then cut any exposed red and white and put heat shrink or electrical tape on them.

7: If you want audio the solder the same in step 6 but add the white to white and red to green If you are using the immersionRC connector.

Ensure you use heat shrink or electrical tape when possible and test it out. The A/V out is NOT digital and the signal comes in very clear through the RX connector.

I will be adding a How to video on YouTube Shortly as I just finished it about 30 minutes ago. And it will show you step by step how to do it.

Hit me up if you need any help. I will answer your questions the best I can.
