Just finished Assembling Canon 7D FPV cable
I just completed a FPV A/V cable for the Canon 7D with the stock cable that came with the camera.
The cable end that plugs into the camera looks similar to a USB cable but there is a rounded part on the bottom of the plug. If you are wanting to use this cable for FPV then here is what you have to do.
1: Determine if you want audio and video to be transmitted to the ground station.
2: Cut the cable just above the square piece near the RCA jack (Or no less then 12" from the USB just incase you mess something up)
3: Strip away the black from the cables exposing 1 yellow 1 red and 1 white cable that is surrounded by bare copper cable. The bare copper is the ground. choose ONE of the cables (I chose the yellow Video signal cable) and twist the copper cable about an inch behind exposed yellow video cable. This will allow for soldering at just the right length in the upcoming steps.
4: On the red and white cables cut the copper as close to the black shielding as possible as you will not need it.
5: strip about 1/4" from all three cables, twist them individually, and pre solder them.
6: If you only want Video and no Audio then solder the Black or in some cases Brown Ground wire from your FPV TX to the bare copper ground wire from your Canon A/V cable together. Then Do the same with the Yellow wires. Then cut any exposed red and white and put heat shrink or electrical tape on them.
7: If you want audio the solder the same in step 6 but add the white to white and red to green If you are using the immersionRC connector.
Ensure you use heat shrink or electrical tape when possible and test it out. The A/V out is NOT digital and the signal comes in very clear through the RX connector.
I will be adding a How to video on YouTube Shortly as I just finished it about 30 minutes ago. And it will show you step by step how to do it.
Hit me up if you need any help. I will answer your questions the best I can.
I have a mini usb torn apart and am trying to figure out how to transmit live video. There are 4 wires on my mini usb, red blk grn, white plus the ground wrapped around. My wireless transmitter obviously only requires signal and ground. Does anyone know how to get the 7d to transmit live video through the wireless video tx? I've tried soldering the ground on the blk wire and testing the other leads with no success. Any input is greatly welcomed.
