ELECTRON STORM: In the past 24 hours, the flux of high-energy electrons swarming around Earth has increased more than tenfold. The source of this "electron storm" is a 600 km/s stream of solar wind buffeting Earth's magnetic field. NOAA cautions satellite operators that "satellite systems may experience significant charging" in response to accumulated electrons.

Not only gps, electronics go nuts. I've been keeping a close eye on this for a few weeks. I use an android live widget and not flown this weekend during daylight hours.

Even my Garmin GPS was out. And it never goes out.

So how do we know when it's safe to fly...?

I use an app on my phone, and also keep an eye online. If its yellow, I try not to fly but if unavoidable, I'll try to limit GPS use and fly ATT only. if red, I dont fly. I use this www.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ligi.solar_activity_monitor&hl=en on my phone. Not sure if its available on iOS.

Interesting. My car GPS the last couple days was a bit buggy. However, I did 3 flights yesterday morning on GPS mode all the way and not even a blip.

Just when I thought I had discovered all the ways our bird can go down....
