bicopter experiment

bit of a learning curve, bicopter using vectored thrust

took a bit to get tuned, intial tuning done tethered

it is not very sucessfull, can hover around ok, put too much pitch angle and she either gets out of control (large mass not enough authority) or it goes too far (more than 30 deg) and cant recover

great learning curve tho for future experiments

dont mind the messy house, washing to be done, and a large pile of boxes my 8 yr old has been cutting up that need throwing in the trash.

this one wont make the transition, its more of a "lets give it a go - kiwi style" (using whatever junk is lying around)

For transition, it needs wing area, and the CG at 20-30% of teh average chord, as well as the conditions for hovering met as well (vane position reltive to CG and in the propwash)

biggest issue is controls
Pitch = Pitch in both hover and froward flight
Roll = Yaw in forward flight
Yaw = Roll in forward flight

so its either do a mode switch on the transmitter to swap the channels as you transition, or in hover mode, pretend its a 3D plane and use rudder to control roll and aileron to control yaw

Final vid of this one, just to show it flying outside

dont worry, you only have to wait for 46 seconds to see a crash

Version 2

take the original idea, and mount on an epp wing from an edge540, idea was to progress towards being able to swap from hover to aerodynamic flight

video done, un edited - you get all the failed launches (3) as well

final landing smashed the left prop and right motor mount and tore the wing - the motor mounts have been ripped out 3 times now - 60 gram motors mounted on a 3mm epp skin !

big problem, apart from flying in a stupidly tiny space, is as soon as it goes from verticle to horizontal, the brain says "hey its a wing" and at that stage roll and yaw become all confused, and roll gets "reversed"

@dennyR - early days, it has potential :)

@tomstoy2 - unfortunaetly, my beer of choice is corona from Mexico, so no help there !
