New toy for us camera geeks

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with any one person in particular. Just a bunch of ideas. I have just found, that it seems to me there is a DLSR male-jewelery thing going on in a lot of AP applications. I agree with you. These mirrorless cam still performance is very competitive with DSLR's...

Canon EOS-M, new mirrorless camera for APV

Yes, that's what I find in the compact camera range as well. Canon tends to restrict some features in order to push you into buying a higher end camera to get the features you want. Sony tends to include those features at a lower price-point. I think it simply comes down to the fact that...

Have we come too far too fast?

I both agree and disagree that we have come too far too fast. First of all, I think all these features are a huge improvement over the past. I've been flying RC Airplanes for 20 years. In the past, radio glitches and lost airplanes were a common occurance. It's one thing to lose a $400...

New toy for us camera geeks

Yes, exactly. I don't get it either. When I see the lengths that people go, especially for SRH's, to hang a 5D on the front... To me it just seems like a bit of snobbery. "Well it's a DSLR. It's the best. If you want the best, gotta be a DSLR. My customers demand DSLR. DSLR, DSLR, DSLR."

Canon EOS-M, new mirrorless camera for APV

Huh, very intresting. I had been looking at the Nex5N, but this is definitely a competitor. I have a 350D right now, but just the kit lens and the cheap 55mm prime. I see pros/cons with both. Canon Pros: CHDK, use existing lenses if you have already "bought in" to the Canon ecosystem Sony...

Have we come too far too fast?

Dean, yeah, I think I know who this is. Hey, have you flown your Tri with my yaw fix yet? All the tri guys are raving about it! ;) Thanks for the info on WKM manual mode. I must guess then that Igor's just wasn't tuned properly? I'm working on a full manual acro mode for flybarred helis...

Have we come too far too fast?

IrisAerial, if you're interested, you could check out the Bay Area UAV Fliers list and go to a fly-in or ask somebody for a demo. https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/bay-area-uav-fliers

Have we come too far too fast?

I think you should give Arducopter a shot. It's really become pretty solid the past month or so. I wonder if there's somebody around you, you could go for a "test drive"? It's so good I'm going to let my 6 year old give it a fly (with all appropriate safety precautions, etc. etc.)

Have we come too far too fast?

Well, so is it "acro" mode, based only on rates from the gyros, or is it truly manual mode, and it just sends commands right to the motors? We have an acro mode based on gyro input, it works pretty well. If you can fly an old flybarred helicopter, you can fly this. It's just like that. And...

Have we come too far too fast?

What caused the WKM to just go into manual mode? And why was it uncontrollable? Is manual=acro=stick input gives you rate, with gyro stabilization only? Or is manual where stick input goes to motor throttle directly with ZERO stabilization? But otherwise I agree about SRH's. They are hugely...

Have we come too far too fast?

Very true. For a while, we were doing that saying "Yeah, it's not perfect, but we're getting closer!"... meanwhile the Naza came out, HK released the KK boards, etc.... It reminds me of back when I was an engineer at Ford ~10 years ago. We'd do a competitive tear-down analysis on a Honda or...

Have we come too far too fast?

I agree. I have been working with the idea that there is a "window of opportunity" here, to establish a business, before that window closes with the advent of truly plug-and-play, reliable, GPS enabled platforms. Once that day comes, if you're not already established, it's game over...

    MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 Apm 2

Hmmm... OK. Then it sounds like something must have gone wrong with your board. But first, I would suggest flashing new firmware from the window in Mission Planner, then do a factory reset. If the condition still exists, then something happened to the gyros.

    MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 Apm 2

Hmmm... really difficult to diagnose from here. What is "ber error?" Bearing? Some people have problems with yaw due to the Mag being influenced by magnetic interference. The code can't fix that problem unfortunately. Previously, yaw control was "weak" if everything was setup perfectly. If...

    Hobbyking Scorpion Y650

    17 minutes on 3S 4400?! That's incredible! I can only get 7 minutes from 3S 2200, and I expect I'd get less than 14 if I doubled the capacity.

Have we come too far too fast?

Interesting perspectives, because I have been going in the opposite direction. I was working on SRH's, but got frustrated with the difficulty of reducing vibrations. I'd work so hard, only to still have vibrations which can upset the stabilizer and cause a crash. So I got a quad, and I'm...

    Help choosing my Flight Controller

Yup, I did forget about that one. It seems like setup and calibration is a bit of a chore, the performance is amazing!

    Help choosing my Flight Controller

Definitely Arducopter or MultiWii. They're the only thing affordable, available, and open source. CopterControl could be a player, but you just can't get one.

Have we come too far too fast?

Interesting stuff. When you say Wookong and Naza are "destroyed by wind" what does that mean? Are you talking about the GPS position hold, or just flying around in stabilize mode? MK poor quality control? Admit I'm doing some competitive analysis, but I've had my head buried in Arducopter...
