    Y6 Builders thread

The new U series looks great. Haven't tried them yet. Basic idea is to get low kv with massive props. Obviously the motor has to be strong enough to turn the prop and carry your weight. I would start with prop size. What's the largest prop that your frame can handle without hitting the...

I'm currently working on a heavy lift 650 y6. Tiger 4014s, 15" props, simonk maytechs, all on big 6s lipos. I really love being able to put big props on a small machine. Should be ready in a week or two.

    RAW Video Explained

Great post. You're right that many of us on these forums come at av from a multocopter first standpoint, and tend to learn about video tech along the way from scratch. Quick dumb question: how does the bit rate fit into the equation? Is 2k and 4k related to bit rate? Thanks, Tom

    16000 MAH Lipo's

I much prefer to use 2 lipos. It adds important redundancy. I had an incident where a connection went bad on one of the lipos in flight. My lipo alarm went off much earlier than expected so I knew there was a problem. I landed immediately. My one lipo had carried the entire load to save my...

Not sure what this means. GPS on these things have had many problems and can be at times unreliable - for a variety of reasons. Many pros refuse to use GPS at all - always flying manually. I always fly GPS, but I'm constantly ready to switch to manual mode if something goes awry. I've made...

    A Million Questions

Yeah. If you do a bit of research on C ratings, you'll realize the whole thing is pretty much bs. They can pretty much slap whatever C rating they want on there because testing for C rating is very much up in the air. Check out a thread at RC Groups about it - those guys even developed their...

    A Million Questions

If you're going to do AP or AV, then flying performance is unimportant. Everything will be slow and steady. You should be able to get 10-15 minutes out of your rig. Throw somewhere between 10 and 20000 mah on it and it should fly great.

There are sims for Android and iOs that look pretty cheap. You don't need your exact model. And again the sim isn't really necessary, it'll just save you having to buy a few extra props for your quad. Learn your quad slowly and methodically. Start by outlining a box pointed one way - then...

DJI acknowledges Zenmuse-GH3 fault. But when will it be fixed?

Wow - that thing is ridiculous. No post stab, right? Still seems a little jumpy on pan movements - do you find it hard to make smooth pans with it? That was one of the knocks on the original Zen.

Great video! You've done quite a bit of flying. I have to say that I had to turn the sound off after the drums came in. I guess people tend to like that music, but I don't really like it for aerials. I liked your coloring and post work. Showreels are tough - I personally think you should...

Flight simulator and cheap quad are all you need. Once you can fly the quad in circles around you while nose-in you are as good as you ever need to be. I think there are free flight sims out there. And the sim isn't necessary depending on how much you're willing to wreck your quad.

Nice choice of build components. You want to use at least two of those batteries. I would probably use two 8000mah lipos. Nanotechs are decent and cheap. Don't use DJI low voltage protection. Turn it all off. The best way to not run out of batteries: - time your lipos - run them for a...

Did you have your lost signal failsafe set up? It seems as though it should have gone into failsafe at the first sign of a lost signal and flown itself home.

    Decisions decisions..

The thrust vectoring is intriguing. Dji manages to get incredible flight times with the motors vectored. And it directs prop wash away from the gimbal and camera. Thassa lot of money though...
