DJI Flight Controller - pricey but impressive

Thanks Maximus, it looks very small and fits in nicely!

    A couple of questions...

    1. I have just been checking out the DJI assistant software and wondering how it will work with the gimbal on an octo setup. In the motor mixer page, it appears there are 8 channels, with the last 2 for the gimbal control. Does this mean if you want to configure it for an octo setup, that you...

Ken, I have to congratulate you on your piloting skills. Very smooth and flying nose in was very well done...I've got a bit more practising to do!

    Wookong-M first flight

Ken, you are really keeping us in suspenders here...please could you do a quick video of you flying and also altitude hold/gps. If you are struggling for time, send me the raw footage and I'll gladly edit it and upload to the relevant video sharing website :-)

    I flew to 320 meters!

Well done, I don't think I would be brave enough to fly that high! Not to mention that it's not allowed here in the UK...I think I would be too worried that I loose reception and it flies away!

DJI Flight Controller - pricey but impressive

Ken, does that mean it's not configured for an octo setup yet? Please could you post a few pics of the kit, mostly interested in what it looks like size wise in the airframe and what it consists of. The pics on their website don't show it in relation to anything else. Cheers, Gunter.

MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 Your thoughts on Arducopter

Thanks for the replies. My advantage is that I have a UK distributor (buildyourowndrone.co.uk) in my neighbourhood and he's always got spares - so anything I need is literally 1/2 mile away.

    MultiWii / NAZE / SP Racing F3 Anyone using Arducopter 2.0 ?

I have studied all of the systems, so here is my view. (I haven't used any of them yet, I have just spent the last few months trawling the internet trying to figure out the best system for my build!) - Arducopter - most reasonably priced, but still needs a lot of fine tuning with regards to...

Ideas on how to improve video smoothness?

I recently bought new props for my Draganflyer. They are carbon fibre and cost £40 per prop  Luckily I got then for a quarter of the price with a bit of wrangling :-) Problem is that they were miles out of balance. What I did is take the prop off the heli, get some thick fencing wire and...

Another cheap but yet effective dome protection

That looks good, it fits very well. As you say, if you drill the holes a bit better it will look like it's made for the job!

help quick with my wiring for a 900mhz

After updating the GoPro firmware, the video out should work a treat. Remember you also have to set it up on the camera as well. Scroll through the settings and make sure "video live feed" LFF is set to LFO (live feed on) Cheers Gunter.

Ideas on how to improve video smoothness?

Personally I think a lot of those vibrations are caused by wind and flying technique. I have found in the last year of making videos, the way you fly it makes a huge difference. You have to literally just tickle the controls ever so gently in the direction you want to move. Also, avoid flying...

    Esc question...

Matt, I'm thinking along the lines of the AC2836 880 KV motor with Arducopter 30A ESC's and running 12" props. It's all Arducopter gear and I can get it at a good price. I can then upgrade if I think it's necessary. Motor features: Size: 28 x 36 mm Shaft: 4mm RPM/V: 880 Kv Prop: 12x45...

Where can I buy boom clamps?

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for, thanks. I just have to find the motor mounts now.

    RC gear saves the day

Good to know you're okay and had the forethought to get those batteries charged! I do have a generator in my shed, but I'm afraid it's a bit far away to be of any good! Maybe see if you can buy a few 12v solar panels if you can't find a genny!
